Need help with color change in Den area
Making big change in color ..too many opinions but need the right one!

I recently purchased a beach house for rental income. It is beautiful but it was decorated in 2006 when built. The designer loved red obviously. I plan to keep that color in most of the areas she used it however I want to pick out a color for the TV/Fireplace area. (so hard to paint over red) This is not the typical beachy colors but it stays rented!I have consulted with 2 professionals and several online and get so many varying opinions on what color to use. The ceiling adds another issue being a stained wood. I have had suggested SW blonde, jersey cream Glidden toasty grey, Benj Moore grey blue and even Sw Indigo Batik. Some I feel would be too dark, some might clash with the ceiling. Should I leave it as is? The walls in question start at the corner of room w/fireplace and continue around &behind dining table leaving the kitchen area red. Having so many diverse suggestions makes it harder so hoping someone has had a dilemma like this and has successfully chosen a good color!

michigammemom The present coral walls are dead on as far as matching your sofas; in fact the sofa up against the wall virtually disappears! The spicy wall color also does not suggest relaxed beach house. Here is a lovely room with great contrast, and a sense of serenity.

mybeachhousenc Actually the walls are red not orangey or warm more a cool red. The sofa is not against the wall but appears that way in one of the pics. Pic 4 shows its placement. I agree they are not typical beach colors. I wanted to change the sitting room. In the red sofas there is a fleck of gold throughout the fabric which is why one designer suggested Sherwin Williams Blonde. Just wanted other opinions too!

SPKCreative Abstract Art www.spkcreative.com Go with the Sherwin Williams Blonde because it will pick up on the gold in the sofas and lighten the room. Get a good primer to cover the red. The ceiling will probably look better as a result, but you could always sand and stain the wood a lighter color that compliments the paint and the tile. You could paint the fireplace Blonde, red or antique gold. Also, you may want to play around with the furniture layout because it looks a bit crowded, especially with the nice daybed so close to the fireplace.

Sterling Property Services In this room the colors you have to start with are those in the wood ceiling, fireplace surround and the floor. Unfortunately, the warm yellow brown of the ceiling isn't playing nicely with the taupe in the surround and floor tiles, and they need the right color to bring them together.

I tell my clients that it's essential to start with your location, architecture and permanent design elements and develop an overall color plan so you don't make piecemeal color decisions and wind up with a hodgepodge of ideas, instead of harmony. Many paint manufacturers have brochures with beach colors to inspire you.

When you're narrowing the list of candidates, don't rely on paint chips or strips. Here's a link to a post on my blog (SandyatSterlingPropertyServices) that explains why:

PaintColorHelp.com Dallas I can't tell from the photo what other accent colors (if any) might be in the room, though it appears there is a dab of green in a pillow and chair? Typically I'd pull a secondary accent color and use it on the fireplace wall - but in this case, don't want it to go Christmas, so the green is out. Keep in mind that if you use a light color on the fireplace, the black TV will stand out even more. For that reason, I tend to use richer colors in that area. The suggestion of Indigo Batik is not a bad one. Or, you could go to a deep gold like SW 6126 Cardboard. Blonde is too light and yellow, imo.

bprince300 If this is at the beach - think 'cool and relaxing' - This room looks perfect for a warm-up after snow skiing, but maybe too warm after a day on the sand .... Palest turquoise tones or soft butter yellow would still let you use the furniture colors you have ....... Its a great room to relax in especially with the Casablance feeling of the wood ceiling and woven fan above .........
