Carpet vs hardwood upstairs
I am planning to replace flooring in the upstairs of my house. Right now, the entire thing is dark blue carpet except the bathrooms. I am considering hardwood floors, likely engineered, or doing neutral carpet in all the rooms. Any idea what is the more common trend. I plan to be in my house for a few years, but keep re-sale in the back of my mind when making these types of decisions.

Thanks
AC

feeny If you can afford to do hardwood floors, they are timeless. You can always put area rugs on top, and buyers can imagine their own colors and tastes in rugs with hardwood floors much better than with a specific wall to wall carpet you've chosen.

vjs12 Hardwood floors upstairsand on the stairs can be noisy. A neutral carpet color in all rooms would be warm, cozy and quiet.

olldcan I have always hated carpet for the simple fact it's dirty.

Linda Hardwood, if at all possible. I might carpet a bedroom when I'm doing a house for rental and want to make it easy to replace the flooring between tenants or when I need a quick, cheap update because I can get carpet for a fraction of the price of wood.

Dytecture I also vote for hardwood, as carpets really show their age after a couple years, which will be time when you plan to sell the house.

lhainan Always go for hardwood or other flooring. You can always warm up and cozy up the room with area rugs that are either cheap or pricey. They can always be replace and cleaned.
