Help with Exterior colors.
I am looking for some suggestions for exterior colors for this house. I will be using Ben Moore paints, and was thinking of going with blue or blue grey to match the light grey roof. Possibly Manor Blue, Sunrise Blue Springs, or Fusion. Also, should I paint the foundation white, or the same color as the house?

TanCalGal Are these foundation stones that have been painted over? I'd faux paint them back to looking like the original stone. Get samples of roof shingles to help you with the colors of stone. Cannon House - South Main, Colorado

The stone foundation & roof now "match". I'd paint the house red with white trim. German-style Bank Barn Conversion

rob892 The foundation is painted white. I like the idea of painting red. But am afraid that it will come out too dark. I'll be getting some paint samples this week...any ideas on which Ben Moore reds I should try?

Here is a good example of a four square house (with an addition) for you to ponder which is very much like yours...even down to the lattice. (If and when you replace the lattice make sure it is installed on the "square", not diamond.)

AMN I like the colors you are considering, especially the manor blue. I'd paint the foundation the Fusion color or a somewhat darker gray.

imprvpro BE BOLD. First think about beefing up your hand rails. Remove your lattice and add diagional slats on porch foundation and porch wraparound. Install slats on foundation going in an opposite direction from slats on the wrap around, creating the appearance of "V" s on their sides. This will also provide a safer railing structure. Use a deeper lime green on the house, pumpkin color on the all trim, porch wraparound and foundation. Freshen the shutter with existing color keep door white. Whitewash fence. Add some low maintainance and dwarf scrubs around foundation and tall grasses against fence. Remember, you are in charge.

houssaon Here is an example on how to paint house details: Historic Victorian Exterior What I like is that the casements of the windows are painted a dark color to make them more prominent. Click on the link and you'll see the colors used.

Of all the colors you picked, I like Sunrise the best. I think the others are too pale and grey. But if you go down the color chart from Sunrise, there are two other colors I think would look even better. The first is Herlequin Blue (830) and the second deeper blue is Stratford Blue (831). They are all the same blue, but each is more saturated. Stratford Blue has a yummy yellow called Honeywheat (179) and a great grey called Paris Rain (1501).

If I where you, I'd paint the body of the house Stratford Blue, the front door Honeywheat, the shutters, window casements and the porch deck Paris Rain and the rest of the trim and the lattice white.

A more blue house with a yellow front door: Craftsman Cottage - Rosedale Ave

rob892 My first choice was actually the Stratford Blue, but it was too too dark when I painted a sample on the wall. I will try the Sunrise in a couple days, think I will also try a sample of the BM Van Courtland Blue used on the Craftsman Cottage! Thanks all for your thoughts so far, it helps a great deal.

houssaon When you do paint samples (do boards, if possible, like form cord) put them up on all sides. Walk away, close you eyes then look. You'll get a better impression of the color. I don't think you'll be sorry if you go with one of these darker blues.
