Need help on dormers !
i am not sure what to do on the dormers, run stone all the way up and fiber cement the other two? should i do cedar shakes on all three peaks? I don't want it to be too busy.

AJ Rogers Resell? Your own? Resell - the dormer windows probably should match. Your own - try something new and you could always add the stone at a later time.

houssaon Looks like you are running up with the stone on the middle gable and I think that makes sense. I would prefer shakes on the other two, as long as there are shakes elsewhere. Otherwise, I'd keep it the same as the base siding.

mostert34 sorrry, i probably didn't word correctly. Should i continue stone up center gable above the windows, or use a shake or the fiber cement. i am adding a side shot, thanks

jennula Personally, I would install a wide (10") bandboard to separate the horizontal siding where it stops in this photo - then finish the upper with shake.

jennula Re: the dormer question - I'm not sure how you are wrapping the posts at ground level and Im not sure where this home is located but if installed correctly you could create shed dormers in place of the current ones...completely different look.

mostert34 ahh, should have thought of that when i designed, good tip. We are going to use the bandboard. The post will be wrapped the same as rail, it is a powder coated steel.

lefty47 HI - I think the cedar shakes would look nice on all three gables for balance and are you also having a trim board before the shakes are added above the stone . Looking closely at the center part you may not need a trim board, but your choice. It's hard to tell from the pictures.

Design & Decor By Shelley Hi Mostert34, I would keep the rock running all the way up to include the gable..I would not include the dormers.. Leave it nice and simple...

barbib Hi, shakes would be a nice finish, but I would also put shakes on the dormer area for balance. Possibly add black or dark shutters beside windows on the main floor (where decking is). Looks like a beautiful home:)

Kathryn Peltier Design I think you should run the stone all the way up because the peak of that part of the house is too small to switch to a different material (the scale would be off). If you wanted to use shakes, I would have stopped the stone at the door/eave height. Since that part extends beyond the rest of the house, treating it as a whole - and somewhat differently than the rest of the body of the house is OK. I think the dormers could be a combination of clapboard and shake with a nice trimboard separating the two, This would then match the side elevation.
