Small bathroom needs updating ideas
We have a small bathroom that we would like to update to make it appealing to potential home buyers. We have a limited budge so a complete bathroom remodel is out of the question. The shower is to the right behind the door. It has sliding glass doors. To the left of the sink is a small floor to ceiling linen closet.....any help would be great!

olldbobbi Your bathroom has good bones. Start by removing the wallpaper. While I like the wood around your window, and the plantation shutters, perhaps you could paint the vanity cabinet.

On my monitor the tiled wall appears pink, and the floor looks like a beige pattern; I don't think they go well together. Perhaps you could install new floor tiles. Also, the baseboard might look better white.

Pictures of the shower and linen closet would help further :)

lmassey10 Haha...the tiled walls are oatmeal color, and we just recently put the floor in to match it.....so they actually go together. The baseboard I would love to take out, but it is steam heat and I am not sure how to cut that out of the line without having a service guy come in to do it....Maybe you have some suggestions for that. And the reason it was painted brown, was to cover some of the rust spots, but I'm sure now that it has been painted, I could paint over it with a much lighter color. Great idea! Removing the wallpaper is a definite but what a pain in the butt that is to do! I am not opposed to installing a new vanity/sink.

lmassey10 Wow Jade, some good suggestions. I like the idea of the bead board. I need to take more pictures, but will do that tonight. I love the color blue or turquoise you suggest. That would look great once the walls were painted. Thanks so much....

Natalie Hi-since you're selling, don't invest in anything too expensive-just paint.
Go over the wallpaper with primer (special-just ask someone in the paint department-they'll tell you what you need). Remove shutters and paint upper walls: SW 7032 Warm Stone or SW 7039 Virtual Taupe. If those are too dark for you, then go with SW 7031 Mega Greige or SW 7038 Tony Taupe---no lighter than those colors. You need to neutralize all the warm hues... Remove the towel bar and hang a set of prints to add some interest. Hope this helps you and Good Luck selling your home...

olldbobbi Natalie, I love those pictures! Great choice.

Natalie Thanks Bobbi---I was thinking "cheap" update. Especially since they're wanting to sell. The dark walls will add some drama and you can't go wrong with perspective pictures---much needed for small spaces such as this... :)

olldbobbi Natalie, I totally agree with you, you always have great choices. All the colors in that bathroom are "off" on my monitor! Everything is pink!!!

lmassey10 Natalie, will those colors you picked go with the oatmeal color wall tile?
Natalie Yes absolutely! Those colors will pull the color from your tile too... You have enough pattern in your space---the floor, the tiled wall, the cabinet, etc. so hopefully you won't have to do the beadboard (yet another pattern). Do check into the primer. Good Luck!
Thanks Bobbi!!!

lmassey10 Shower doors off or on? We are debating on whether we should take the shower doors off and just put a nice shower curtain up.

patriciarhall Just make sure the shower doors, trim and track are picture perfect clean and they will be fine.

Natalie Off!
Hang a white, tailored, cotton, shower curtain, pushed to left side. White towels... Looking forward to seeing it... :)

lmassey10 Natalie, going back to painting the walls, which we choose SW 7031 Mega Greige, my question to you is what color do we paint the trim around the window? There are also 2 louver doors also with trim, what color do we paint those? I am thinking a soft white for the trim around the window and trim around the doors and the doors. Is that too much white?

Natalie Hello-
Yes, paint it all white/off-white. If you have white paint chips-choose a white that matches the vanity top-it's warmer than the stark white of the toilet and tub. Thrilled to hear you chose the Mega Greige and can't wait to see it... Enjoy!

lmassey10 Thanks....we are actually going to replace the vanity, but most likely it will also have a white sink.

lmassey10 Here is a final re-do picture of our bathroom. The picture is a little dark, but it is a very bright room.
