Need help with my backsplash
We have dark stained maple cabinets (shown in attached pic) and we've chosen Bianco Antico (shown in attached pic) as our granite, our flooring is a polished porcelain 18x18 tile that is the same color as the flecks of color in the granite. We were going to choose Legacy glass subway tiles in the color "Orchid" and tile all the way up. We were told, by one of our contractors, that the backslpash would be too dark and too busy...would love to get an opinion from a designer....Is this a good choice? Should we rethink our decision? Please help, very confused. Thank you.

Reico Kitchen & Bath Do you have pictures of the tile as well? kevinbrown makes an important point...you will be the one who is in that kitchen every day so it is most important that you like it!

Dytecture Perhaps something with a light neutral base and darker accent tiles to add some interest.

Studio NOO Design Agree with Dytecture, light with accent.

jamiwh I do like it a lot! But I keep hearing (from 2 people in general) its going to be too busy. too many grout lines,etc... I just dont agree but I am not a designer. To me glass subway tiles are classic and timeless and would go with just about anything. My opinion is that the granite I chose has a lot movement/pattern in it and the backsplash should stay basic (no pattern eexcept grout lines). Would maybe a different color in the subway tile be better? I dont think a tumbled marble or travertine would look good (too rough and casual). More feedback ???

ct design studio Well I don't think the subway is a bad size for you. I am very familiar with your granite and I agree on keeping it simple. I do think orchid color will be too dark with your cabinets, and with a dark tile, and you have to use a particular grout made for glass that just comes in white, then the grout lines will be more prominent, which is probably what the contractor means by busy. I would take a look at the same tile in the dune color, and go lighter and warmer. I do think a nice honed travertine subway tile would be very nice, and not "rustic", I've done it for clients and it looks great.

Contractors see a lot of different projects and what turns out well and what not so much. So they often have valid suggestions. And sometimes they are brillant contractors but lack a designers eye. Either way consider their suggestions and at the end of the day it is your home and your choice.
