Need suggestions for "light look" night tables to go with bed
We would like to "lighten" the look of our bedroom so that it is not all heavy dark furniture. We like our new bed, which is dark wood, but need recommendations for night tables that would go with the bed, but not be too heavy-looking.
Do you recommend a light painted wood night table or does that not go with the bed at all?
Thanks in advance.

trasgorshek If you want to lighten it up, glass with metal legs (brushed gold would be nice) with tall lamps on each side (or wall sconces) but it really depends on the rest of the room...ie chandelier, etc. The bed is beautiful.

trasgorshek Just a few to give you the idea. With a beautiful mirror above would be real nice

blockeliz Glass with metal legs is a fantastic idea. Thank you. This is for a city apartment, so space is at a premium and this type of lighter look will help the room not feel cluttered. I meant to also ask for recommendations for lighter dressers. Any ideas? Most everything I see is dark, heavy wood.

blockeliz Just saw your suggested pictures. So far I like the four legged table the best, but without the pattern, perhaps...

trasgorshek Mirrored would be beautiful for a dresser to go along with the glass side tables. It would keep it light while adding the needed storage, plus reflect light giving the illusion of space.

trasgorshek If you are sharing the space with a man, you can always add texture and grey's for accent so it doesn't feel too girly for him. A beautiful light fixture would be really pretty with all the pieces combined.

blockeliz Amazing and right on target. I can already see how the room would lighten up with this type of night table and dresser. Can't thank you enough.

blockeliz True about the texture and greys. I just showed all of the suggestions to my husband and he found them to be right on and not too feminine.
I now see that it is "okay" to mix dark wood with metal and mirrored accents. I would have thought that it would look like a mishmash, but now I see that it can work. The carpet, by the way is off-white with no pattern, so it does not pose a problem.

trasgorshek ;), thank you!! Glad I could help, it's always fun playing on this site. The items I choose for examples are pricey but similar pieces are out there at much better price points. It was really just the idea I was trying to get across, not necessarily the piece itself. Share pics when your done and have FUN shopping!!

blockeliz I absolutely will shop around based on these models. Many thanks again!

trasgorshek Since you are married, you could do curtains in a grey linen and then add euros in a solid cream with a toss pillow in a nice plaid or graphic print instead of a floral pattern. With plaid, linen or twill you could then add a chandelier with a little bling and keep an even balance. We actually have the first one pictured and absolutely love it!!

Natalie Hi---I think the matching bedside tables look fine... If you desire a more ethereal feeling you can create it through color, texture, pattern, etc. without having to change your furniture. I suggest mirrors on either side of your bed behind your tables--- glass lamps... Fresh flowers... A rug (green hue think nature/grass) under bed or off to side, a drum shade light fixture... Hope this helps you... blockeliz Thanks. It's hard to tell in the picture, but I should point out that the current night tables are hand-me-downs and are not a matching set. They are from the 1940s and sort of ordinary and too heavy looking. I like your suggestions for how to gain an ethereal look and let me say that you nailed it on the rugs!
How do I get more information on the product suggestions pictured (I'm new to the site)? Clicking the pic and hovering the cursor are not giving me more info. Thanks ever so much.

blockeliz Now that everyone has been so helpful, I posted another design dilemma--we also are looking for a "light look" china cabinet to go with our wood table and brown sofa. Pictures posted. This site is amazing.

blockeliz If anyone is still on this thread: my husband decided he thinks the mirrored dressers are too flashy for our traditional style. Any suggestions for similarly light-looking dressers that are not mirrored? Thanks in advance.

trasgorshek Hi Blockeliz, I tried to comment last night until my son took the iPad from me...little scoundrel. In regards to the dresser, if you go with more antiqued glass instead of bold, straight glass it will calm down the bold, holywood regency feel. But a modern, straight lined wood dresser would look nice as well. Something that sits on metal legs, not all the way to the ground wood so I'd doesn't feel as heavy. I will look for samples. In regards to your china cabinet, I don't see your pics of the sofa and table. Pics would help, can you reattach?

trasgorshek Sorry, I do not type very well on this thing... Please excuse typos. :)

blockeliz Thanks, trasgorshek. I'll look for your samples when posted. Antiqued glass sounds like the way to go.

Here is the thread for the china cabinet dilemma (pics are there). Thanks in advance.

trasgorshek Scratch the modern dresser idea, I couldn't find anything like what I was envisioning. A highboy would look really nice and not heavy, uber traditional. Here are a few other ideas. The mirrored one is more traditional feel but keeping with the reflection of the glass creating more open feel.

Natalie Hi---here are links for rugs and I couldn't agree more with your husband regarding the mirrored tables. I like the options trasgorshek gave you... I'll give you a couple as well---I do like the idea of round nightstands... Still in favor of putting the arched mirrors on either side of the bed-it would give you the look/feeling you're after.
Good Luck to you and please post pics.

blockeliz trasgorshek: great call. I like the mirrored dresser with the wood siding--it's a great combination. Just wondering if there is a link for it, or how I can search for that type to buy somewhere. Keyword search?

Natalie: Thanks for the rug links. I never know where to start with rugs and it's such a big decision and commitment. I, too, like the round nightstands and the mirror above them idea. Will look on Hayneedle now.

trasgorshek That one was Ethen Allen, Veronica chest...sorry, I would copy the link but I have to admit, I am not tech savvy with this pad. :(

blockeliz Will check out Ethan Allen now--that is where we bought the brown sofa.
