Need help with accent colour to go with wallpaper
We have nice new gold and dark charcoal wallpaper in our bedroom. It's just a feature wall as you enter. My problem is, I don't know how to mix other colours or patterns in? The black and gold feels a bit monotonous.

Any ideas for paint in the rest of the room (currently builders beige) and cushions, curtains, etc?

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Your wallpaper is a lovely sophisticated design that I think works best with just black and gold, at least on the bed. So I would replace your white bedding with a tan similar in tone to the gold. I would then add 3 Black Euro shams and a gold and black rectangular pillow. I'd place a black throw across the foot of the bed.

I could see a coral chair in the room with one of the small black pillows you now have on the bed.

Le Java Woodwork What material is your bed frame? Add a nice modern/clean looking headboard. Nuetral tones for wall and white for ceiling. Use strong statement pieces to standout, but use sparingly. Maybe 1-2 pieces in each rooms. I love modern baroque pieces as statement pieces.

Eg. Red Baroque console near entryway with a baroque / classical style mirror. Or a classical dining chairs with mismatch fabrics in bold damask prints....

Aggie Purvinska definitely gold and rich camel for the bedding, you could use a set of charcoal faux fur shams and a faux fur throw, lamp shades could be drum with some gold crystals, and you need a beautiful Upholstered Velvet Headboard in Gold. Ditch the white.

Randi Crawford Depending on your color preferences - black with purple & green; or terracotta, mustard & black; black, aquas & silver accents; you really could go a lot of directions, even neutrals (yawn)! LOL. The old design advice to find any rugs or fabrics and take your wall and accent colors from them works well (it's a classic for a reason!)

What a lovely wallpaper you have chosen. I like Le Java Woodwork's suggestion of baroque/modern, i.e.; baroque style pieces in bright modern colors. You could also go with kind of post-modern, clean lines. Or Biedermier, art deco, mid-century, Bohemian, the choices are endless! I realize that's not a lot of help, direction-wise, but hope it stimulates some ideas. You don't say what your preferred design direction is, but I'm guessing pretty classic.

I also agree with Carol Albert-Kincl Design, that your bed linens are too much of a contrast with the wallpaper, and don't go with the design style either. While they are lovely, they need to have more "presence", either with a more dominant color, luxe texture or pattern, or all three! You could retain a couple of the white ones to include in your pillow collection.

Even the black/white "Paris" baroque prints, similar in design to the wallpaper, that have been so popular in recent years would be kicky for the bedspread. OOH, I just thought of toiles in tan/black, tan/white, black/white, or your accent colors with black or white, or the "French writing" design fabrics, as drapes, chair upholstery, bed pillow, etc.

In the photo, your bedside lamp base appears to be silver, it looks great against the wallpaper, and you might consider including more touches of silver or mirrored items to amp up the sparkle and glamour. A nice big mirror over the headboard would be nice and lighten up the wall and room. And speaking of headboards, a great one would make a world of difference in creating a design focal point.

Your room can be so beautiful, you have a good start.

Randi Crawford Some more fabric colorations, just throwing these out there for inspiration. For me, the fabrics really make a room.

bprince300 Pale Champagne Bedding with black and Deep Red accents in the room if you want romance - more yellow-gold for friendship. Incorporate these in your chairs, lamp shade, drapes, pillows, etc. The silver toned lamp is fighting the gold in the wallpaper. Perhaps you could paint it in a satin finish gold or burnished gold with the black shades.
This room is perfect for that mirror with a beautiful (somewhat ornate) frame and a chandelier type of fixture and would also pair well with a red chest or small cabinet with hand-painted decoration.
As you have chosed a very curvaceous and elegant wallpaper and lamp style you may even decide to go as far as putting a bowed rod over the bed and pull gold sheers back to each side of a curved black velvet headboard ( think of a half-round awning or canopy ... ) Look at some King Louis style chambers or bedrooms for inspiration (then back it down 20 notches : ) Have fun ....

CASTLE Design Studio LLC Ooooo, awesome wallpaper! So many great ideas already. If your concept is "Tuxedo Night At Home" you could think of the wallpaper like a silk man's tie then layer black and gold bedding, a camel throw, metallic gold on ceiling, charcoal on walls, acrylic nightstands, custom headboard based on enlargement of wallpaper pattern in gold...then your accent color changes with the mood or season via fresh flowers (or potted plants for longevity) in silver vessels, of course. Crazy!!! Here's a super quick sketch.
