Modern Guest Room needs finishing touches
I attempted to go modern in my guest room- I think I am off to an OK start, but could really use some help to complete the room. The ceiling height is about 10 feet. What kind of headboard do you think would look good? Was thinking a linen fabric, but not sure on shape? The wall opposite the bed is painfully empty and I have one lone chair in the corner that is doing nothing for the room. I do 2 of the orange chairs but don't think the height of these chairs work at all regardless....I am open to any and all design ideas...pretty stuck on this one!

78407840 Move your paintings away from the bed lights..maybe above the bedhead...but also check they work with these pillows..the two should go side by side

michigammemom Your pretty room is sure to please guests. The white Morocco headboard from West Elm would be perfect with your bedding and curtains. I like the placement of your art, but may have opted for brighter lamp bases.

Kelly Thank you! The lamps were extremely inexpensive and can be used elsewhere. Do you like the size and shape of the lamps, just not the color? I was thinking green lamps originally but thought that might be over kill on the green. Any suggestions on the wall opposite the bed or by the window?

Aggie Purvinska Love the side by side painting idea from the numbers person:)

I would go so far as paint the walls green, pick up the color from the curtains, get the Crate & Barel Either "Curved" or "Colette" Upholstered Headboard in Alabaster, get a new white painted dresser and two upholstered chairs one on each side of the dresser. The chairs can have some of the coral and green and white in them...

Darzy How about getting a console table that has drawers in the front? Then, your lonely (pretty) corner chair can sit in front of the console as a desk or "dresser" for guests items. A mirror above (starburst mirror maybe?) and a small lamp would be nice. A pretty tray for guests water bottle, mints, etc would be a nice touch. If there is room, guests love a bench at the foot of the bed for garmet bags. Michigammemon's headboard selection is delicious!

bonmio I think the paintings would work well horizontally above the bed (so no headboard). I would consider finding a vintage dresser and painting it or getting a simple dresser to put next to the chair - on that long wall - so you have a place to store extra linens and can give guests a drawer or two for their stay. It definitely feels a bit empty there. If you want to do a headboard, I would suggest stacking the art - horizontally again - above the dresser or desk that you get to fill the space. If you use the art over the bed, do a mirror over the dresser/desk.

I like your bedside tables but they feel slightly low to me and the lamps could be taller and I think a different color. I agree with the people who commented about bringing more color in the room. That could be as simple as getting a coverlet to fold at the end of the bed in the color of the edging around the pillows or in a green that coordinates with the pillows and your drapes. Please post when you're done - it's a lovely room and you're off to a great start!
(I would go a bit higher so people aren't leaning on your artwork!)

darzy love the desk idea to be used with the lonesome chair.

Kelly I love the idea of the parsons desk- thanks for the picture. I love that chair as well! I would love to find one similar maybe with some orange in it to pick up the other colors. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks!!

Stanton Designs-online design services I really like the colors you are using in this room. For me that burnt orange (i think) color really stands out to me in those pillow. I suggest doing upholstered headboard in that orange color. That is going to make those pillows pop ever more and add a ton of color to that wall, which you need. I would move those 2 pieces of art that are behind your lamps to your window wall. Perfect size wall for the size of the art.

I like the orange chairs, it is another way to bring in that color but I would add a pillow to them with that green, a stripe would be a great compliment to the other patterned pillows. Then you just need to find a piece of art or a large mirror for the wall with your door.

olldbobbi It's a beautiful room, just a little too set-and-pat, a little too hotel-y. I like Stanton's idea of picking up the burnt orange to give it some life. I also love the headboard suggested by michigammemom, I wouild use that instead of the 2 pictures.

If you put in a desk, the parsons desk is nice, but again a little too hotel-y. Can you find a used desk with some character, and put the 2 pictures above it?

Can you make your lamps similar but not matchy-matchy? Add some different accessories on the bedside tables and you've got it made!

bagaroo I think it is a wonderful room and for a bed you should use the pattern from this picture.

For the empty wall I think that a orange chair with a nice big reading lamp and a small table in the, all put in the corner would do just fine. In the middle try a series of photos or pictures.
Good luck!!!

Darzy I love Judyg's chair selections. It's looks more "bed and breakfast" than Bobbi"s "hotel-y" observation!

Darzy BTW..kellyzzz, you're off to a GREAT start. The room looks terrific.

Inside Out Staging and Design A padded headboard is wonderfully welcoming and great for guests who want to read in bed. Many options in various price ranges, and SUPER easy to make if you are a DIYer.
Keep in mind people's basic needs. You have already addressed the bed (obviously), 2 nightstands and lighting. I think I bureau with a mirror would be great though it looks like placement directly in front of the bed would make it tight.A better option might be on the "door" wall. Love the idea of a comfy chair in the corner but think given the height of the ceilings you need something bigger keeping in mind flow of moving around the bed. Slipper chairs (armless chairs in varous sizes and colors)are very comfy and versatile and take up less space becuase they are armless. Consider a floor lamp if you do this so people have adequate light to read. This will also balance the lighting in the room.

Nanette Alton Def. put those two painting together above the headboard--they look kinda lost hanging off the edge, especially with 10 foot ceilings! A tall vase or some other sculpture in a color that accents the pictures on the night stand for balance & harmony. I like the padded headboard idea, that would soften it up quite a bit & a throw or quilt at the end of the bed. Voila'! I'll be right over! :)

Darzy I actually like your art where it is behind the lamps. A bit unexpected and pretty. Just that headboard will finish that wall off.

Natalie Hi---really pretty. In addition to the comments above--- succulents, textures, maybe a bit of muted aqua/turquoise-ottoman, pendant lights instead of lamps, and painting the ceiling a pale coral color. Good Luck!

Kelly Love the rug! If I had hardwoods in that room I would love that under part of the bed. I guess I always thought you could not put carpet over carpet though- I would love to hear peoples take on that.....

I really like the idea of painting the ceiling as well- if I go that route crown molding would be a must correct? Is it essential to match the crown in adjacent rooms? I ask because this is really the only mod room in my house thus far- the rest of the house is pretty traditional w/double formal crown molding.

Darzy I LOVE that rug too and it's definately okay to put an area rug on a rug.

fabtwigs Your room looks nice already...I wouldn't change a thing... as you said your room just needs finishing touches... You do not have to move the pictures... They are fine there. However I would add a nice headboard with some height.... [houzz=Astoria Guest Retreat] [houzz=Pacific Heights Home Bedroom].
I also would use an orange throw on the bed. A pillow on the chair would be very nice too... Also pictures on the wall next to the chair and a floor vase with bamboo or branches from your yard... [houzz=Condo Master Bedroom]

Paradise Restored Landscaping & Exterior Design You guys are the best - this discussion is a fun one - when you asked about headboards I thought of something I saved months ago - I dug it up - maybe this can help inspire and idea or two . . .

Kelly Thank you so much. I will make sure to post a picture as I progress. I just may get this done before my next house guest arrives. Thanks for the inspiration!

Natalie Hi---yes you can put a rug on top of carpet. If you're hesitant, then hang it up on the wall as art. I just thought it perfect for the space. The atrium photo is inspiration for something "living" in the space-succulents in terrariums---think easy to take care of---and the dishes I had to throw in there because they match and if you get the desk/console table you could set it with the plates, glasses/cups, napkins, cookies/candy/chocolate, coffee, and teas just before your guests arrive... Oh how special that would be. :) Keep us posted and have fun...
