Need help with wall colors with unpainted wood trim
I am having a difficult time choosing a wall color with the unpainted wood trim. Love the wood trim in our 1929 bungalow, however my husband does not want to paint it. Can you please help me with a wall color. We will also be need help with furniture selection, color and style as well. Any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated, since I have had this dilemma for several years!

olldbobbi The favorite color of the year is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, you could try that, or pick up one of the colors in your stained glass and have it reduced. Revere Pewter: http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/reverepewter

What style of furniture are you looking for? If we know this, we could help you better. Also the dimensions of your room and any features we need to work with, such as a fireplace, a column, etc.

Dytecture I also vote for not painting over the wood trims given the age of the house. The furniture might benefit with something more traditional.

houssaon Keep your paint choices to earth tones rather than pastels. The Rever Pewter will look good with the wood tone. You might want to knock off the shiny finsh and refinish with a satin to improve the look of the wood.

tinadesigning Thanks everyone! Bought this house 3 years ago and have been stressing myself out about the wall color. I'm going to look up the Revere Pewter! Also, I like the idea of taking the shiny off the wood, never thought of that. I would like to go with more traditional lighter color furniture because the floors are hardwood, seems like it is making everything very heavy. I would like to remove walls - and put two columns in - opening up the area between the DR and LR creating a larger area. I would like to paint the columns white. Unfortunately no fireplace.

tinadesigning houssaon: you mentioned to knock off the shiny finish from the wood and refinish in satin, could you please instruct me on how to do this, or point me in the right direction for instructions. Thank you so much. I will get more pictures of the Lr, Dr, and Bd to get any advice you may have as well.

houssaon The finish is either shellac or varnish. "One of the easiest finishes to discover is shellac. Simply dab some alcohol on a less-than-prominent area of the piece and wait for it to dissolve the finish. If it does, you have shellac." Check out this article for more information on removing the finish, whichwill not take off the stain or the color, but the wood should be a lot lighter and less yellow (and shiny!) http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/how-to-strip-wooden-furniture.htm There might be better one so look around. Talk to you local paint store staff, too, for techniques. The you can refinish with a satin polyurathane.

I would not paint the wood or remove walls if this is an craftsman bungalow with lots of charm. Try to keep as much of the original details as possible.
