Black island, brown perimeter cabinets - which granite, and can I really pull this off?
October 13, 2012 in Design Dilemma
We have tropic brown granite on the perimeter of our kitchen, along with medium brown maple cabinets with a chocolate glaze. Our floor is light natural oak. We're planning on adding a black island to tie in with our black appliances and existing countertops, but we're having trouble picking the granite. We initially thought we'd go with a cream granite to pick up our tumbled stone backsplash and lighten it up...but that's mixing two different types of granite AND two different cabinet colors. I'm so worried that it won't come together! I love the combo of brown and black woods, but I usually see it with the same granite throughout. Do you have any suggestions for what color granite we should use on the island? Or should we just try and find a slab of tropic brown to match what we already have? The island will be skinny (2x6), so it's not very large - not sure if that makes a difference?
