Need help in my office!
I'm working in a legal office and as you can see from the pictures, it is very drab right now. Unfortunately, I can't do a whole lot to it, other than bring in things and hang things up on the walls. The door is open most of the time, so the coat behind it is rarely visible. I think I am also going to put the full length mirror I brought in behind the door.

On the large blank wall, I would really like to make a gallery wall with all white frames and some art and mix in my diplomas. Unfortunately, I really don't know how to go about choosing art that works well together! Help with this would be great.

I also need to get some nice things to put on the desk (for organization and decor). It would be great if I could have a cool ottoman of some kind too since I am sitting all day and it would be nice to put my feet up sometimes. Please help me all you decor geniuses!

Darzy Here's some ideas..Pick you favorite color (or neutrals) and get several lidded baskets (semi-large) and line them up on top of "hutch". Get a tall metal vase (Ross', TJ Max) and put in the corner and use as your waste basket. Whatever color you chose, when you frame your credentials, matt the frames in that color. Accessories like pencil holder, in basket, can be mesh metal in the color you select. If you want to take a step further, you can stain your cork board (or a pretty fabric) the color of your accessories. Oh..a pretty plant in front of the window (or a great vase of fresh flowers) and your office will be fab!

Carolina Photo To Go LLC You might consider a plant with that great window. An indoor azalea can have lovely pink flowers with green or a Peace Lily is just green (Peace Lily's cannot be killed and are a step up from silk)

If you want art (other than family photos), some people will pick a theme like botannicals or coastal. Etsy.com has a great search engine and usually the prices are good. You might consider high definition photography because it can be so vibrant and uplifting. I see that in a lot of offices in recent years. For instance, you might choose St Thomas, or Paris, or Venice as a theme. Some people do birds, or flowers, lighthouses. I have a photography shop and have most of those themes already posted but have files of more. It is on Etsy and is nancyhehmann. You can contact any of the shop owners on Etsy and they will customize a size if you need them too. They also have paintings as well.

By the way, Lowes have decorative wall hooks for coats I have noticed; some are attached to wood or you might want to get a hall tree.

For matching desk items, you may have a local office supply store or Staples, Office Depot or Office Max carry them.

If you need frames, Michaels can be a good place to look to get matching ones and they do custom ones too. They almost always have a coupon online that you can print for discounts.

To further make your office special, you could go to a fabric store and buy enough fabric to go over your cork bulletin area. Just fold it under an use thumb tacks to hold it in place. If you wanted, you can hem it or glue the edges under with a hot glue gun.

Have fun!

nan7 I do love the idea of a plant, but I definitely don't have a spare minute to spend taking care of it. I love orchids and live near the flower district so maybe I will get one or invest in a life-like faux.

As for artwork, I am hoping for a more artsy feel than photography. And I'd love some more help with how to make a gallery wall come together?

olldbobbi If you want to get a "faux" plant, anthurium is a great choice, because even a living one looks waxed. [houzz=

Smilow + Mathiesen how about a great piece of art, which in my humble opinion, has the loudest voice in the room (or the office!) Check out our website and especially the "living with art" section for a big selection of art that will make you happy and inspire you...Art in the workplace, studies show, increases productivity....Our website is www.pamelasmilow.com
We specialize in helping people pick the right paintings for their spaces, make the process very easy, and will happily send you possibilities in a tube (the paintings get stretched afterwards for easy shipment) upon approval.
