Need help designing new fireplace
I live in Arizona in a somewhat southwest style home that is 6 years old. Curved wall edges, arches, no crown molding. I have natural wood baseboards and natural wood doors throughout the house, but I have white plantation shutters on all windows. The fireplace is a gas insert that's surrounded by tile. I really like white fireplace mantels. Can I do white with all of the natural wood?Would it look too traditional. I also want to put different tile around the insert. I need some ideas for the mantel surround and tile. You can also see that the carpet goes right up to the fireplace. Should I have a slab installed? If I did, could the carpet be salvaged?

Also, as far as style goes for the rest of the house, it has a lot of beige/gold travertine, dark wood floors, and rustic Tuscan style kitchen and bathrooms.

Deborah Butler, Brickwood Builders You can enter various terms in the search bar to get fireplace photos. These are two tuscan inspired fireplaces that I found. You would only have a flat hearth on the floor, but these are possible otherwise.

Castle Construction of Santa Barbara The photos Deborah posted are great inspirational ideas. In my area we don't have many southwest homes, however we do have a lot of Spanish or Mediterranean stile homes. We will often do plaster fireplaces and they look great. I think they would also match your southwest style. And they are quite affordable options.

amberibailey Can I do a white wooden mantel surround with some tile? Or is that too traditional? I need some pics that would work. Thanks

Deborah Butler, Brickwood Builders Go to the Houzz search bar and enter fireplaces or mantels or fireplace mantels and then select photos. You should be able to find a look you like.

BuyaMantel Based on the photo your room is not big and one of the Tuscan designs would be bigger than a room. I would recommend simple mantel in wood maybe even painted surround if you do not want to take all the visual attention. Or you can entertain the idea of one of our mantels. Here is a photo of mantel we installed in other small, or I should say, normal size living room.

Here's a few white fireplace surrounds. They are all quite modern looking. I'm thinking that if you do go white on the fireplace, you will need to add a little color to your walls or floors.

alexa924 I would replace the tile with stone and make it go all the way up to the ceiling

amberibailey These are some great ideas. Thanks! You are correct, my room is small. 17ft wide x 11 deep. The existing fireplace dimensions 58hx80w. The insert is 37hx43w.

I would definitely appreciate recommendations on the dimensions. I feel like the existing tile surround size is all wrong.
