Emily Hurley Hi Stefanie, Great question. Maybe it partially depends on the color? Do you have a photo of the space you can share to get a better idea?
ccwatters My girlfriend had painted her daughters walls a soft pale green, and painted her 8 ft ceiling a pale pink. She loves it and said it does not make it feel smaller. I think the key is to go with a very light color, but I think it's a great idea for adding more richness to a room
ccwatters Cocoa walls and a rose ceiling sounds gorgeous!
With a clay beige on the walls, however, you really could do a soft pale version of just about any color. Before you take the plunge, be sure to paint a sample on a posterboard so you can place it up there to see if you truly like the color you choose...ceilings are not fun to paint/repaint
vardanega Shows what I know. All the 8 foot ceilings in my home are painted a light color. I hang curtains & drapes high and have white crown molding. I thought I was giving the illusion of a higher ceiling. Odd, but the room with a 9 foot ceiling is painted white, hah. So because everyone seems to like it, paint your ceiling! As my husband says when I'm making a paint decision, "It's only paint!" Meaning, have fun. By the way, Cocoa and rose! Oh beautiful!
Diamondflame Neutrals or any colors that recede will do fine on low ceilings, giving them an illusion of depth and therefore a greater perceived height.
radgirl I painted my 8 ft ceilings silver. The walls are gray. The ceilings shimmer in the daytime when the sunlight cones through the glass doors and reflects lamplight around the rooms at night. Best decision I made when remodeling my house this year.
vardanega Rad girl I'd like to see that too. But would you let us know what brand and name of silver you used? Otherwise we're all back where we started with a few of the maddening designers that are unavailable to answer questions about their rooms! And if you say "custom made" I quit. LOL
