What can I do with this space?
My sitting/living room is shaped so odd! I have this space behind my loveseat which I have no idea what to do with! The space may be a bit wider once I get my other furniture in. What can I do with this space?! It's so awkward an empty. To the right is the front door and to the left the front window. Thanks!

hilltop1155 It's hard to see enough of the room to make sense of it. Initially, I'd say you could put a sofa table behind the loveseat and place a decorative lamp on it (along with other decorative items), rather than using the floor-standing lamp which calls attention to the dead space.

From this photo I can't see why you would want the loveseat so far away from the wall. Is the loveseat longer than that wall? Or does the rest of the room flow better with the loveseat nearer the center of the room?

I think that, if you have them, additional photos from different angles will inspire more helpful comments.

lisianthus I agree with the sofa table idea, if you don't need to access that space. The top of the sofa table would make a great area for a vignette that expresses your design style.

Blue Desert Interiors Move the lamp down to sit between the loveseat and the wall, maybe add a thin table also. Then hang your art vertically to "fit" in the space and then accentuate the vertical line. 1/2 wall options: 1, install narrow glass shelves to display a collection on. Or 2, hang a cool flat architectural artifact centered over the 1/2 wall. Make sure you can see through it partially. This give you privacy at the front door while still feeling open.

decoenthusiaste Does that bar access the kitchen? You might try a bar-sized floating shelf and a couple of stools to make it a quick area for a snack or meal, if that is the kitchen on the right. There is an outlet, so it might serve as a laptop area or mini home office location.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design It is not necessary to have anything in that space. In fact, it looks like it needs to remain open to access what appears to be a bar area. I would actually want more open space behind the loveseat to achieve better access.

Natalie Replace pictures with a large mirror, push loveseat back but still be able to access cabinet/counter, and hang a cluster (2-3) pendant lights... [houzz=

maisiekl Here are a few more. I thought I uploaded them but apparently not! I have ordered an area rug, round coffee table, end tables and table lamps. Sorry it looks empty!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design The more appropriate time to have asked your questions might have been before you ordered an area rug, round coffee table, end tables and lamps. Too often I have found clients who have just painted a room in a color which I would never have selected for them, and they then call me to ask what to do with their newly painted room.

We are happy to help you, but be aware that you have limited our choices of what to tell you by having already selected everything that will fit into the room.

Aggie Purvinska you have a space there because of how you have placed the loveseat. The easiest way to resolve this is to move the loveseat in front of the window with two side tables and two chairs on each side.

maisiekl Do you have any recommendations without using the ordered furniture? I am able to use this furniture in the family room as well if I have other options. I would love your input!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Maisiekl, if you could provide a sketch of the room, with dimensions, doors and windows shown, we could explain how we would choose to arrange the furnishings. Also the dimensions of the existing pieces of furniture would be important. Thanks for understanding our dilemma!

alwaysdesigning I would put a nice little writing desk behind the sofa against that wall. Sit a lamp on the desk that both spaces can share. It can be a nice space to sit with a laptop or desktop computer and room for the chair to move back and not be in the way behind the sofa. Good luck

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design You did VERY well, maisiekl! Let's hope that I got it more or less right when I translated it onto paper. Click on the drawing below to enlarge it. You actually seem to have a lot of space in your living room.
Now, since you have the furniture, if you'll move it around like is shown in my drawing, I'm eager to hear if this can work for you.

maisiekl Looks awsome! I never thought of doing that. I also have a plasma tv. Would it be good to hang this above the fireplace? Or should I get some kind of stand and place that somewhere/ if so where? Thanks so much this is the most help I have ever recieved on this website! I wish I could have you here to help design my bedroom and basement! :)

maisiekl And unfortunently the tv cannot go on the floating wall as there is no tv jack!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design It sounds like the TV will have to go over the FP. If you need help with your bedroom and basement, you can contact me at kincl@sbcglobal.net .

lisianthus I don't see a pic of the fireplace wall, or did I miss it?
Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design It was never shown except in her drawing of the room layout.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Maisiekl, regarding the two pieces I drew that flank your 10' sofa, what I had in mind for there was a pair of 36" chests of drawers, about 30" high, to provide some storage in that room. If you don't need the storage, they can be something else. They also provide space for 2 table lamps.

maisiekl Thanks for all your help! I'm going to try it out once my furniture arrives! I will email you with my bedroom/basement pics and floor plan. Any ideas what I can do with the 1/2 wall in the living room ? A way to decorate it or anything? Thanks for your help

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design You are most welcome. I think the best thing to do with the 1/2 wall is to do nothing. Do not call attention to it or clutter it by doing anything to it.
