Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I'd use the Saarinen side table with the white marble top. I've been in love with the Saarinen tables ever since I was a student at Vassar living in Noyes House, designed by Saarinen.
Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Lucky you for such a find! I'm not certain, but I think the marble is Carrara. Design Within Reach's website could tell us.
Oliver Designs An Eames Lounge chair deserves an exceptional side table. Leolux makes a fabulous modern, mini, leather table in fun colors called the TamTam with a removable lacquered leaf.
nicole851 What about choosing something in a much darker wood like the wall shelving?
Just because at the moment the chair looks a little out of place from the darker colours in the sofa and shelving, also the light wood finish on the back and bottom of the chair starts to get lost in the floor tile. I think if you add a lighter wood side table it will also start to get lost in the floor also but if you continue to carry the dark wood finish from the shelving (and bench top in the background) throughout the room, the lounge area would look more unified, and the chair will contrast the darker pieces and stand out on its own, as it should!
katiedehmer I would check out the nelson pedestal table w/ a white top. It could tie the couch and chair together with the combination of a curving chrome base, white top and band of light wood veneer.
nick4378 Thanks for all the valuable info. Katie: the Nelson Pedestal table is currently my # 1 choice. I looked up the configuration on Herman Millers site & I like it in the combo that you suggest. However, I will have my dealer contact Herman Miller to see if they can make the top in the same wood the chair is made in. This color combo for the Eames Lounge is relatively new & I was skeptical about paying extra for it. However, I am glad I took the gamble as the wood is stunning in person (my iPhone photo does not do it justice) & the MCL pearl leather is seriously supple. The leather is softer than the leather on my LC3's & I used the second highest grade from Cassina on those.
Being relatively new to Houzz, I just can't believe how valuable a resource it is.
By Design EK I would go with the wood stump or twisted wood table. Mix it up a little! Unless you are a purist in which case a great George Nakashima would be fantastic!
Thanks for the compliment. Will check out the dimensions on the Nakasima. Especially height.
The problem with the Eames is that the seating position sucks you in to a point where you need to be able to access a side table by just moving your arm & not your body. Therefore, the proper height is essential. I think Eileen Grey, Nelson & Saarinen would work height wise.
judithramos80 I would suggest the Eames Wire Base End Table. It is an Eames design and they are made to complement each other. There is a variety of colors available now for the 2012 special edition.
The Eames Wirebase is adorable & I have always loved it. I think they are perfect end tables for very low platform beds and perfectly mated to the height of the Eames Potato Chip Louge Chair.
However, for the Eames Lounge, you would have to sit up & reach down every time you wanted a sip or to change the channel.
mathomson5 Consider also the chrome table from Ethan Allen (?) a smaller version and revival of one originally designed much earlier. Two cones of chrome spokes that meet half way to the top of the table. I like the Eileen Gray, but if you wanted a different metal, consider Restoration Hardware's nesting tables in brass, a little simpler design that also fits snugly -- and is quite heavy, does not tip over easily when the chair swivels, tilts. I had one of these in my living room in another life, settled in a corner, not open -- and I used a sturdy trunk from another era - different style altogether but same wood tones. Now I also like my 30's cocktail table -- three levels -- that would roll out of the way if this chair and its driver inadvertently swiveled in the direction of the table with drinks. Some of these old tables and newer versions tables have rims in the event a drink spills. Consider also a drinks cart -- something that is logically present, but not dedicated to this chair -- lots of style options depending on the decor of the room.
judithramos80 You could look at the Herman Miller page for inspiration. The attached picture shows the Lounge Chair combined with the Nelson table. It is a matter of preference. The seat height is only 17", so you could as low as 10" (your arm from the arm will reach up to 8" off the floor) or you could go higher. The Saarinem table is also a good choice since it's 20" off the floor.
John Dwyer Architect I'm slightly partial to GRAIN, but that is a major bias. :) I would also consider some of the tables by Matt Eastvold, another great Minnesota furniture designer/maker.
I think the Saarinen Side Table with the Arabescato Marble top would look stunning! Not only would it look beautiful in your space, but it is also functional too. The height of the Saarinen Table coordinates with the height of the Eames Lounge and Ottoman creating an overall comfortable seating arrangement for you.
Good luck with your project and please let me know how it turns out.
Cherrywood Studio I have two black Eames chairs in my home and have paired both with cubes from our studio, Cherrywood Studio. Let us know if we can help.

Should I go with another Eileen Grey table next to the Eames or go with:
1. Saarinen Side table (what top will work best with the floor?)
2. I would love to use the Eames stools but they are walnut.
3. Richard Schultz Petal in white (too boring?)
It's dilemma......
Is the table available in a plain white marble top or is it Carrara?
If it is Carrara, will it clash with the Crema Marfil on the floor?
