Need paint advice for ceiling weirdness
We inherited these complex, sheet rocked, boxed/soffetted ceilings. Our house was originally built in the late 1890s and is most likely one of the original farm houses in our neighborhood. We suspect these were installed to hide modernization. The second photo of our family room shows how we treated that room. Need advice on whether to continue our grey/blue throughout the hall and keep ceilings white, or wrap color onto ceiling, or add another element to ceiling (such as pressed tin tiles) to play them up. Either way we need to create continuity from family room through to the front door area which is treated like the family room (Grey/blue walls and white ceiling.)

jeanette mac I will start by saying that I love your living room! The colors you chose are so pretty and I always adore bricks painted out in a soft white. What texture! Boy you really did inherit a challenge with the oddly coffered ceiling shown in the picture you posted. I would be tempted to to use bead board on the ceiling and install molding to the lowered squares. I would paint the whole thing out in the same soft white used in your living room and use only one color on the wall (the same beautiful blue. In the living room) so as to not draw more attention to all the posts and ceiling variation. I think it would make things a little less busy. I can't wait to see what you do! Photos from Houzz.

creeser As much as I love the tin tile ceilings, I agree with jeanette mac about the beadboard. I think it would be more fitting for a farm house. However, I do think you could use it on the kitchen ceiling if they were painted white and the kitchen is a separate room.

Hilary Lindsey LOVE those ideas! Beadboard is one of my faves and we have used it throughout the upstairs bathroom. Thanks for the moral support here on Houzz!

Purple Elephant Designs I agree with what's been said already, but think about painting the beadboard a darker blue from the same swatch as the walls to make it pop.
