Odd shaped dining table?!
Hi. I have a 10' x 10' area in which to put a dining table. Im looking for an unusual shaped modern table, but cant find many (no suprise). I LOVE the B&B Italia Seven table, but 8K is a little (ok a lot)- too rich for my blood. A rounded off trianglish shape would be perfect so it doenst stick out into the living room too much. I dont even know what term to search on! Odd shaped table? Anyone know of any cool ones in the sub 3K range? Thanks!

but I do agree with j222b, round is the best in a square room. Or possibly octagonal?

TanCalGal A lovely room with many windows. Hopefully you can use the room for many other activities, not just DR. It looks like one of the nicest rooms you have. R U going to use the DR feature every night? or think of other ways you can use the space. Maybe you do not need a formal DR at all?

Darzy How about this? Instead of an odd shape table, how about a curved or horseshoe settee? then a round table and fun chairs. That way, the space can double as a "lounge" as well as a dining area. Here's a sample, but I was thinking more of a vintage settee with two eames chairs across.

Mint Design Round table or banquette in the corner.....a little tough because of low windows, but doable. :)

Karen Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for your feedback! Yes, we've been having the "where does the dining table go/ do we even need a dining table/ what do we do with this room" conversation for literally years (been remodeling). A little more information about that room.... We live in Cleveland, on a busy street corner. This level of the house that I've shown you is one level up off the street. So, its great because people arent walking by looking in, but its nice to look out the windows and watch the world go by. So I've always wanted to have some casual seating there, but its also the only good spot we have for the dining table. Do we need a dining table? well, I would like one. We have casual seating at the bar, but like I tell my husband "where is the insurance guy gonna sit when he comes to sell insurance?" We need a spot to gather more than 2 people.

The banquette is interesting and I've been thinking of something similar, but I just dont think I can envision it well enough. Does anyone have any more photos that might help me "see" it? Here is a photo of our kitchen, so you can get an idea of our style so far.

We are considering the Cherner round table, or a tulip round, about 48" diameter. But then I saw the Seven table in a book and got obsessed..... We're going to do some light drapery, but Im worried a round table with 4-6 chairs in the center of the room is just going to look so bland and empty. How do I fill it up better?

I stink at designing.

Karen something like this idea? I like the storage with the books shown. Maybe i can line my underwindow area with these and sit on top and look out the window? maybe with a few throw pillows? The height wont work to use them as dining table seating. So that would have to be seperate..... im not sure if it would fill in the room nicely, or use up too much space....

Karen sorry.

Darzy Check out this Houzz article on "Tulip Table goes with everything". It shows wonderful chair ideas. I like your idea of bookcase/ledge under the window. A banquet my not work with your low windows. Love your kitchen!

Karen Thanks Darzy- Tulip table and Cherner chairs in walnut? Hmmmmmm.....maybe!

Your room is a square 10 x 10. You need 3' larger than your table to pull back your chairs comfortably. I vote square table and square framed chairs.

closetdecorator My vote is for an oversized round table.

Karen Define "oversized". Please. 48" dia?

Darzy I think it would be too crowded with anything over 48" round. Or slightly larger oval.
