Is it a good idea to have the oven next to the refrigerator? Won't they make each other work harder to maintai

Mark English Architects, AIA never had a problem- how would it make maintenance harder?

lmsusan I don't know...it just seems like the heat from the oven would make the refrigerator run longer. Maintenance was the wrong word I guess...more expensive energy bills is what I meant. I love the way it looks.

Mark English Architects, AIA You'll find that with modern ovens there is very little heat transmitted through the side, and over the life of the appliance, there is a small percentage of the time that ovens are actually used, in any case. You are right- it looks good to group deep thinks like refers, ovens, mw's and deep pantry storage together.

lisagphillips Mark - your thoughts on downdrafts? and preferred brand? i'm about to go this route and pretty nervous about it! however i hate the ceiling spaceships enough i think to give it a go. suggestions?

Mark English Architects, AIA in my experience, downdrafts work for the casual cook, but not the serious cook, or certain ethnic cuisine. We've used threader in the past.
