Black appliances
Are black appliances still okay to use? I have a black dishwasher and double ovens in a house we are buying. We have to buy a refrigerator. Would it make sense to buy black? Should I replace all appliances with stainless? We are somewhat strapped for cash with closing costs. Thoughts? Thanks guys!

olldbobbi What color are the cabinets? I think black appliances look great with either cherrywood cabinets, or for a black and white scheme, white cabinets.

I would buy a black fridge for now. Maybe you could find a good used one on Craigslist as a temporary measure, until you decide on the final color of all your appliances.

feeny I agree that black looks great in some applications, but it isn't quite as versatile as stainless. The color of your cabinets and counters will determine whether it works. But if the dishwasher and double ovens are already black (and if they look good in the current design of the kitchen), then buying a black refrigerator should be fine. But if you are in doubt, perhaps you could post some pictures?

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I'd buy a stainless steel refrigerator, and then replace the others over time.

terryhenecke Thanks. My existing cabinets are honey oak. The granite is busy but looks beautiful when seen on a large surface. I am thinking that black appliances may be too much.

olldbobbi Honey oak and stainless would be better than black, if you don't plan to paint the cabinets.

terryhenecke Oh sorry. Here is new granite. Not as yellow as sen in pic

feeny I would transition to stainless steel appliances. I often like black ones when the countertops are black and the wood a rich medium brown or cherry, but I think the contrast between the black appliances and the honey oak won't be as attractive as the more neutral stainless in your kitchen.

terryhenecke Thank you for the ideas. You guys have given me a lot to ponder.

Main Line Kitchen Design Actually, to me Honey Oak is more of a style cabinetry that goes better with black appliances.

Dytecture From what you've described, it sounds like a kitchen in the 90s so the black appliances are fine unless you are planning to do a major renovation.

terryhenecke Actually, Dytecture, the house was built in 2005 but there weren't any high-end upgrades. What part seems 90s to you? Does the granite choice? I love it but would the stainless make it more current?

Dytecture Honey oak and black appliance.

terryhenecke Ok. Thanks

Main Line Kitchen Design Honey oak is a 90's look but it is better to have the whole kitchen look like a nice version of a particular style from a certian period than to mix elements that don't look like they belong together. That's why black appliances. Dytecture and I often agree. The granite looks great by the way. Cheers

7215o4 Go with the black. The granite is great. If you need a little stainless look, bring it out with Baroque containers that are glass(yellow) and the tops desighn in stainless look polished or dull. cone shaped.
