Renovating 1945 bungalow: basement apt and open concept main floor
I am renovating this home out of the need to create myself a consistent income. The idea is that the basement will be rented to International students while allowing me to move to the main floor. I would
like the basement to be bright without the feel of a basement. The windows will be 4 ft long and 3ft high with a very large window well around them which will look more like gardens than window wells.
I was thinking to change some of the walls to "sliding doors" concept. This way the spaces can be versatile. I compiled many ideas from Houz (thank you for compiling this amazing library). Nevertheless since it is my first I would like to get other's opinions and advice. I would love to use Universal Stretch Ceilings but have no idea when and what? As well as keeping in mind the look and the feel of the spaces I am trying to add as many energy-efficient features (“Passive House Philosophy) as well as keeping in line with reasonable budget.
On the main floor I would like to create a pleasant space for my teenage son and myself where I can work on my art.
I thank all of you who are taking your time and helping me with this project.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Just a quick observation: In the basement apt., in the bathroom off the bar, I would eliminate the door into the tub/toilet area. Your bedrooms don't seem to have closets? I would definitely add closets, even in the study and sewing rooms, so that they could be considered bedrooms, if needed.

lovebalancedlife I have not dicided yet where to put the closets since I am loooking for a bed or Murpy beds for the rooms. All rooms are bedrooms . I am still working on sending the plan of the main floor and the front
