Want a modern look. What can I do

I would put up wooden (wood or painted white) blinds with some kind of drapey thing over as a pelmet! unless the side could accomodate a drape "for effect"

Roman shades are a good solution here, or do you need daytime privacy? If so, then a faux-roman (valance) with a drop-down blind behind it will give you beauty and function. The blind can be a pleated or cellular shade for a modern look.
