rivers300 can you add island with electric stove. Change to hinges that don't show and get new hardware. You probably need to remove the swoop over the window and get new counter-tops and floor. Could also consider painting cabinets and brown trim.

rivers300 it doesn't have to match.. you could get it covered in bead board and paint it a cool color like "old barn red" or black or dark stained. If you keep the cabinets without paint they will need a good scrubbing or sanding and refinishing.

And seems you don't have a corner cabinet left of the stove, does the stove align with the sink? or is facing the other wall? If you send me the measurements I can send you a proposal

The island idea sounds great, IF you have the room, but it's hard to give advice on one angle of room.
