You can do it either way, but in this scenario it was probably seamed together on the edges.

TO ACHIEVE THIS SIZE OF ISLAND DID YOU HAVE TO PIECE TOGETHER SLABS OF GRANITE (DOES IT HAVE ANY SEAMS)?
Is the countertop a single slab, if not where is the seam.
