Mixing Polished Chrome and Polished Nickel?
December 10, 2012 in Design Dilemma
We are in the process of building a house. We already purchased our hardware for the kitchen and baths in a polished chrome. Now we are finding that many of the light fixtures we like are only available in polished nickel, not chrome. Should we go ahead and mix the two, or would it be better to return the cabinet hardware and get nickel? I personally prefer chrome, but just am not finding lighting I like in chrome. Advice?

ETA: Our faucets and shower heads are all chrome and cannot be changed at this point.

I had this same problem and ended up mixing. I notice but no one else seems to. If the two metals are not right next to one another, I think it will be fine.

I was ridiculously crazy over this in a 4500 square foot home, and finally went for the mix and it turned out great, I am sitting here in my kitchen and see polished waterworks, aged lighting one chrome drop fixture and nickel hardware. I think it adds interest.

Yes, Thank you. I am dealing with this also for our master bath. I wanted Chrome everything but absolutely cannot find sconces I like in chrome. I did find a sconce in polished nickel that I love but was worried about it not looking right. This definitely eases my mind also. I will send pic's when finished!

I'm glad I'm not the only one sitting around pondering little details like this! We installed a chrome bridge faucet in our kitchen but the hardware I really love is polished nickel. Think I'm just going to go with it!

My biggest dilema had been the time frames a few years back!

I think you can mix all silver-tone metals with no problem. It gets a bit trickier with ORB or gold tones.
