Should I put a valance/other above the shades?
I prefer a clean simple look and enjoy our view when the shades are pulled all the way up. (These are top down/bottom up honeycomb shades)

Darzy I personally do not care for fabric valances because so many make the room look dated to me. If you want additional window treatment and love clean lines, you can do a wood valance or cornice? Here's a couple samples.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I think that a short roman valance mounted above the cellular shades would look good. I'd start the valance at the ceiling and have it come down about 12" to cover the top of the cellular shades so that they do not show when pulled up. The valance would look like the bottom foot of the roman shades shown below. I would use a solid color in cotton or a simple stripe in cotton or linen.

Helen Boltin I think the clean look is great but the room could use a shot of color. It has an adorable cottage feel so something in a boxpleat style made of gingham or toile would look beautiful and elegant without being too fru-fru!

janicelewis Thank you so much for your feedback !! I will consider the cornice idea, have done that successfully in another room.
Yes, it does need a shot of color, I'm researching fabric for the banquette cushions & pillows; thinking of a soft plaid.
The room has original ceiling molding, so I don't want to cover it with a valance.
So helpful to see the photos you all posted; thanks again!
