HOUZZ dining room redo from advice posted a few months ago
This is a Bona-fide HOUZZ redo! I posted before pictures of my dining room in August and took the wise advice that was posted on Houzz. I am very happy with the results. Thank you so much everyone that took the time to give help. We had a spectacular family Thanksgiving here.

Laurie Roots Brilliant! Would you mind sharing where you got the console under the gallery pics?

kamicos Yeah, agree with everyone...it's a great space. Dinner parties are one of my most favorite things to do...be great to have them in this room!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design The art of the dinner party is fading, with so many parties being more casual these days, eating off paper plates. I think there are so many pressures on the time of people these days that they find this casual form of entertaining all that can easily be accomplished. But now and then, I hope that they'll slow down and entertain at a table for a sit down dinner. Maybe with Haviland china, or maybe with paper plates. I'd be pleased to be invited to either party.

Bellagio Custom Drapery Hi Laurie, I don't mind sharing that at all...That console came from a store in Nashville, called "Southeastern Salvage". It it is a warehouse that gets overstocks and things. It is one of those places where you have to stop in frequently to see what is there. That console is 108" long x 15" and was so inexpensive ($129, if I remember correctly) But I did think it needed beefing up to balance the French buffet on opposite wall. The table skirt cost more than the buffet!
Not sure if they have a website but hope it helps.....

mllgc How do you open the French doors with the drapes over them? My living room in my new home is very similar in design but I thought the drapes would block the exit from the doors. Please comment. I was also wondering about painting the FP wall a different shade than the rest of the room and I see that it worked well for you so I'm hoping to try that.

Bellagio Custom Drapery Hey mllgc, Those french doors are almost never used. They function more as windows in this case. We have other ways to get to the deck. I would agree, if you have french doors that you will be using, this may not be the best solution. In my business, we usually treat french doors with roman shades and/or valances because they will be stationary and out of the way for entrance and exits. Hope this helps.

mllgc Thanks, Bellagio, it helps a lot! My room has door windows like the ones in this room, and also a little transom above each long window. I'm considering having faux Romans installed from the ceiling and down to just barely cover the top of the transoms to make them appear like taller windows (to get the warmth of the drapery fabric in my room without blocking any light.) Then I'd maybe do custom mini blinds on the door windows. That's my thought--but I'll need to hire an expert in my area who does the kind of work you do in your neck of the global woods. Thanks again.

nancypa I love your dining room! Can you tell me where you got the chandelier? We have a dining room with a cathedral ceiling and need a large chandelier. Thanks so much.

Bellagio Custom Drapery nancypa, Thank you! The chandelier came from Restoration Hardware and is on sale right now I think... and it is huge, kinda rustic for the room, but I love it.

Bellagio Custom Drapery The mirrors came from Ballard Designs, they were floor mirrors that were the right size so we hung them. Thanks for your nice comments
