Ideas for master bedroom
I need ideas in designing my master bedroom. I am hoping for a contemporary/elegant look. The room size is approximately 12x14 with 8 feet tall ceilings. Its currently painted in Benjamin Moore's White Owl. I'm planning on replacing the horrible blue carpeting with white laminate planks from Ikea. I really don't know what to do with the wall above my bed. I'm currently debating whether or not to have a headboard or to hang a wall shelf just above it to compliment the minimal lines of my platform bed. Any ideas our opinions would really help. Thanks!

the essentials inside Hi Krishna! Love your walls & your windows! The room is going to look 1000% better w/the new floors.

Here are a few bedrooms I had in my ideabooks, you might like if you are thinking all white--

tennisanyone A beautiful tall headboard would be nice plus floating shelves to act as nightstands since you don't seem to have floor space. Please, no wall shelves over the bed. You don't want anything to fall off and hit you on the head.

Krishna Constantino Thanks for the comments. I've never thought about the downside of wall shelves over the bed. I'm also thinking of maybe doing hanging lamps on each side of the bed.

the essentials inside Love the idea of hanging lamps on each side of the bed! Here's another example of that:

Love designmuse's pic too. Carolyn always has great advice & I do like the headboards shared by Macral design Corp, especially the black one.

This bedroom has bookshelves on either side of the bed, with sconces attached to the bookcases.

I've also seen this idea with soft fabric covering the front if the bookshelves, like drapes.

Krishna Constantino I love the headboards of Macral Design Corp! I finally decided on getting an Ikea Mandal headboard and painting it a glossy white and leaving the floating shelves black. I too love the look of hanging lamps over the bedside table but with the floating shelves, will that be a bit overkill?
Thank you for all the inspiration guys!

mpoulsom I have black shaded hanging lights over my night tables, and I love it. It frees up tabletop space and looks great as well.

the essentials inside Do you mean this headboard?

Krishna Constantino Yes! Exactly that headboard... Just going to paint the slats white and the shelves black

the essentials inside So you could just move the shelves further down and have pendant lights hanging over them. No need for side tables. It would look great!

What else do you have right now that you plan on including in the room?

mpoulsom krishna, if I were you, I would take carolyn's suggestion of painting that wall behind your bed black and leaving the mandal headboard in the natural wood color. If you still want to paint the shelves black, that would be okay...but you may even be able to just buy black shelves from IKEA. Not sure, but they may come in black.????
I just think all black and white and no warmth to the room may not be as comforting...the wood will bring that!
