Kitchen Remodel
We bought our first home earlier this year in May and did a kitchen remodel. It took roughly 8 weeks to finish and are very happy with the results. We moved the kitchen from its original location to the family room and knocked down a bunch of walls for an open concept.

Andrea Prasch Love the open floor plan! Did you have any problems with load bearing walls?
boostedt0y Yes there were a few load bearing walls that were removed. A beam that spans across the length of the room was used to support the load.

There is one thing I would change, your plugs. Can you find a colour that will compliment the walls?

designideas4me Thank you. I assume it must be wrong to ask because it seems many people dont answer this but it would help me greatly to have an idea of the cost of your materials. So I can see if I can afford anything nearly as beautiful as your kitchen. You can send me a private message if you dont wish to post it here. Thank you and I totally love your choice of materials and design. Did you use this flooring throughout your house? Did you remodel other rooms? thx

designideas4me Was the floor a glue down or floated? Oh and did you use a designer or do it yourself? Thanks for your help. love it.

designideas4me ok sorry for all the questions but are the cabinet doors a textured laminate? This seems very popular now in contemporary cabinet style. Are they easy to clean? Is it basically a thin layer of a veneer attached to a plywood surface. I have samples here of that material. I think it comes in tons of textures and styles and colors so its a great way to match and blend colors. I never spoke to anyone who owns these thats why I am curious plus I have been told they are a cost effective choice in new cabinets. How did you decide on those?
boostedt0y Shoot me an email via the address indicated in my profile and I'll let you know the cabinet cost. The cabinets are a textured laminate and are super easy to clean. Just wipe down with Windex. As you mentioned, textured laminates are very popular for contemporary cabinets and I was unable to find any solid wood cabinets that would produce the same results as the cabinets I purchased. Thus, I chose the laminate cabinets you see in the pictures.

As for the floors, we used them throughout the home except for the laundry room. The floors are floated.

In our renovation, we worked on the entire house. However, the majority of the work was focused on the kitchen, dining room, and family room to create an open concept. My father is an architect so he did the design of the space and I chose the finishes. For the kitchen, the cabinet supplier recommended sizes of the cabinets/drawers.

designideas4me I contacted that store... Karelia... looks like a good place to shop. They have one here in san diego and seem to specialize in green products. She was unfamiliar with the rock salt finish. Maybe you can you mail me when you get a chance . I would love to know price per sq foot on the floor and the cabinet price. I will try again to contact the cabinet company. I want to see if I can remodel my kitchen to look anything like yours..My email is ilovemybear2010@gmail.com.

Thanks again.
