Need help for my mantle
I love the look of a white washed brick fireplace. Currently, my fireplace looks exactly like the one attached. How should I go about making this look like white washed brick? I believe it is travertine tile. Could I paint it?

By Design EK I could not recommend painting Travertine tile! I don't think you can paint ceramic if it is not real stone. In this case just remove the tile and replace it with white subway tile for the look. Or white marble for a more texture look.

charro534 I love the tile! Never would I paint it. The only thing I would do is get a taller mirror above the fireplace. If you whitewash the tile then your trim will not pop. As it is now the beauty of the molding really stands out.

bekahmadrid Thanks to you both! This is not my home, but is the model home for the house I am in now. O.K. The clear consensus is not to paint the tile but either replace it or decorate the mantel well. It is a very tall fireplace with a very tall ceiling, so a tall mirror is a great idea. Thanks!
