Would you expand this doorway?
This doorway could technically be opened at least a foot in each direction (left and right) without getting into moving plumbing etc. Do you think it is worth it to expand it or would you leave it alone? :) Curious what other Houzzers think! Fourth picture shows opposite view of doorway (from back kitchen looking forward).

Darzy I love wide open spaces so my first thought is to open it up. But...think about it. Will you be able to arrange furniture to your liking if the space were more open? I'd have a space plan/furniture plan before making the final decision. Or, even having a spot for fabulous art?

Sam Mattson I love the open concept which seems to be what you have..Arching the door frame would open it up or opening it up entirely to the ceiling then adding round or block columns would be beautiful!

Melissa Elizabeth Darzy - Those were my thoughts exactly! @Matt, thank you so much for that visual as well! One of the issues here is that structrually that would be difficult. Nonetheless, I love that look in many spaces! I think it looks great particularly in city townhomes.

Sam Mattson The columns could be used as a reinforcement ;) buying a column then have it appear as an insert onto the wall (would be cut to slide onto wall as if its hugging it) wouldn't take up doorway walk through space..
