You might consider black and white toile (or similar pattern) which is traditional but with more visual interest. Black, red and white is a classic color combination. Here are a few pics for inspiration. Also, might I suggest acquiring a pair of lamps that are larger and taller than your current pair. This will provide more balance to the larger scale bed.
