Need help for TV set-up in family room

morris44January 13, 2013
Just moved into new house and there is this funky nook where a TV should go. We will be buying a flat screen that won't fit. We would like ideas on how to remodel this area. Should we close off the whole wall and make it flat? Maybe put in shelves on the bottom and mount the TV? Any pictures/suggestions are greatly welcomed!!! PS The TV in the picture is not what will be used.

Don't see stairs but reminds me of some of these applications.

Yes it is under stairs! Great pictures, but it's our TV/family room so we would like to put a TV on the wall.

I'm confused. You said the tv won't fit but then you talk about shelves and mounting it. Are you talking about mounting it on the outside of the opening? I don't think that would look good. I take it your power supply is in the nook. If you mount the tv on the outside of the nook will you have enough clearance to walk by it? If so I think I would close it up.

My vote would be to close off everything above the lower 3-4 feet. Mount the TV above and add shelves and possibly some kind of doors below to hide the equipment that goes with the TV. Consider doing some kind of door that will allow the doors to be closed but still allow your remotes to work.

I vote for a built in cabinet with drawers below and doors to close off the tv and then add shelves with doors on top that also can be closed off. You can try an Ikea hack if a carpenter is too expensive. But i would not close it off flat I would create a cute hidden entertainment area.
