Scones...yay or nay?
Should I keep these scones, or get something different?

Keep
Different

judyg Do you mean sconces? If you mean the candles on your stairway, yes. Get something different. Your stairway is lovely.

Darzy Keep the sconces and get purple candles. : ) You can get remote control battery operated candles to easily "light" the space.

judyg Maybe nothing on the walls, and let your staircase be the focal point.

cyn222 I'm with Darzy! Purple candles

lickerofthetoe Yep, me too, purple candles (they look fab already, but purple will add that little edge )

orangecamera Everything looks like its hung a little low, as if its near the height where a handrail would/should be. If that's the case, raise it all up so it's not constantly being bumped.

I like the purple candle idea, but you need more than just that purple. Would purple mats in (some of) the picture frames work?

pauli12 I just had to show you this... I have always loved this.

inkwitch Agree: raise the photos to eye level.

Don't care for the sconces at that location. Did you try any that were somewhat larger? (Did that design come larger?) These are tricky as a major decorative.

DOn't think I care for the idea of purple candles. Obviously you don't want to frame or matt photos. I suspect that using any more purple will cheapen the overall elegance because this is one of the most elegant staircase/foyers I've seen.

slowedownnow The style of the sconces is a bit glitzy when looking at the overall feeling of the area. Can't really tell that until you look at close-up pic. Personally, I don't think you need them. I suggest that you study the pic from pauli12 and add some other objects along with the pics and think about framing/floating existing pics in different styles/shapes of frames but tie them together with black or chocolate color on the frames.

The Creative Man too many different styles and textures. Photos are enough by themselves.

pauli12 Are your floors pine? They are really nice.

feeny I love scones (with jam and cream), but don't love those sconces. :- ) Keep it simple. Ditch the sconces, and either keep the lovely photos or keep the staircase wall bare.

Dytecture I agree, the staircase has a more traditional feel, try to find something in towards that style.

sunshinesmiley4 I think you should take that sconce off....then add another picture to its place or leave it with only four pictures. Very pretty room, by the way.

Jayme Hobbs I like the sconces, but not there/seem the wrong size and style for there...

Granite Transformations Great staircase, however, I agree that your pictures need to be raised higher. I agree with the above on the purple candles too. I think the sconces work for your design.

Amanda Konersmann I appreciate the advice & yes I was referring to my sconces, not scones ;-). I'm returning the sconces & hoping to find something that fits with the photos. It's such a big wall I feel that I need something else. Everything is hung at a level that is above where a handrail would be. I think it's hard to see in the photo. Thanks again!
