Soothing Kitchen Makeover
We had to decide between selling our house or staying, and decided that our kitchen was where we should start if we wanted to try to stay. Needless to say, we are staying put!
We kept our appliances, even though we wanted stainless, and just updating to an induction stovetop and the stainless hood. I think the stainless and black go well together in the mix including the cabinet handles.
Had cabinets painted, removed a big wall cabinet and had a simple bookshelf in its place.
Chose dark wood flooring that we ended up running through the dining room and entryway.

Paradise Restored Landscaping & Exterior Design Really enjoy your update - It look slight and inviting - spacious and clean - You call it soothing and actually - it is with the calming effect of non-clutter and the blending of whites/creams! Glad you chose to update - after all - you would move elsewhere and need to add your personality anywhere you went!

newpat What granite did you use? How long/wide is the peninsula...we are in the process of planning our kitchen Reno and the peninsula with seating on both sides seems like a great solution. Great job!

newpat Does peninsula open onto the family room? If so, how do you find it in terms of traffic?

kfran7 granite is kashmire white. the peninsula is about 68". we have 2 under the counter stools facing the kitchen as well. it's wide which we love so there is plenty of room to put bowls, etc. on counter while eating. 42" wide. (we wanted it to be more like a kitchen table)
yes opens to family room and it seems to be one big room now.

Susan Mladenovich was the counter changed too or is that the original counter before redo?

Also, did you have someone in to paint, or did you send them out? How much did they charge you? What colour was the cabinets painted?

And do you have a dining table next to the eating bar? If so, what light fixture do you have over the table?

MAlps Beauty!! I would just change the hardware from knobs to pulls!

Virginia C Did you caulk between the granite and tile on the back splash?
kfran7 the original counter was ceramic tile. this is kashmire white granite. we extended the counters width on the eating area. we had a painter take doors and drawers to spray. color is benjamin moore white dove. the painting was less than $1,000 and very well done. easy to clean.

we have seating for 6 if needed at the bar area. we have a dining room right off the kitchen as well so we did not need a lot of seating (nor could we fit anymore)

we did a clear caulk between granite and backsplash.

odessalight Love what you did with your kitchen! Really lightened it up and thanks for sharing the cost of painting the cabinets. So are you introducing a color into the kitchen like the ones in the rug? If so maybe add a bowl that has one of the colors in the rug...to give some color...decorative items....??what color is your family room....?
Really beautiful kitchen!!

julie77777 Thanks for all the info and links above! Quite helpful. I'm seriously thinking of ordering 3 of those pendant lights now that I can see them in use above a peninsula with similar dimensions to mine. I had looked at them last week on the Home Depot site. Thanks! Your kitchen looks great!
