garnatmom You need full length curtains hung higher so they give the window a larger look, pick a color from the rug and go deeper. Can the tv be moved over the fireplace? If yes, in would consider doing it. Wall sconces on both sides of the fireplace would be a nice touch. Move the floor lamp is their a shade on it?

njmomma As the above poster suggested full length curtains on the windows in a color pulled from the area rug will compliment the room. Think about putting book shelves on the sides and below the t.v. making it look like built in. You could connect the shelves with a beautiful piece of molding at the top of the t.v. The bottom shelves can hold all the components and speakers for the t.v. and side shelves accessories in colors from the rug. This would also hide the wires of the t.v. You can really do this yourself. Pre-made shelving, or check IKEA

Mirtes Lobaito The tv can't be moved to the fire place

mtjr It can be cheaper than that you just have to use creativity, yes I think that you can put instead of the tv the chimney

Mirtes Lobaito Also, I have a toddler and have struggled with picking the right storage for toys. Her toys are usually by the lamp in the right hand side. Any suggestion? Something that can go with the decor of the room? I greatly appreciate

Mirtes Lobaito Thank you so much mtjr. Last question I am going to add 2 accent chairs and I also need pillows. The rug has some light and darker green in it. What colors should the pillows be. I think I will chose an olive color for the curtains. The wall color will remain the same.

snowschoo Mirtes,
I like this room. I think you need a big green plant in the corner where the vase is, some throw pillows that pull in a bit of color and the long curtains that others have suggested. For the walls, try another lighter complimentary paint color for an accent wall around the fireplace and add art work that pulls the colors together. Plants add a natural element that works in big spaces.

Mirtes Lobaito Thanks Carol. You mean artificial plant?

snowschoo Hi Mirtes,

A real plant is always best but not always practical. You will need to determine if there's enough light and if it works for you family. An artificial plant will work but you'll need to find something that looks real. Here is a photo from my living room. I don't have much room in that corner but the plant adds a lot of color and character. Carol

garnatmom If you need storage for toys etc. If possible you can get a larger cabinet for the tv, as well as extra space for toys. This way everything gets put away, when you have guest.
