So you basically added a room at the bottom of the plan and extended a bedroom ? The new hall / courtyard is a good idea.

Why all the walls separating the spaces? Is it possible to combine the library and living room into one large room?

Widen the kitchen into the super wide hallway, then open it into the living room.

Try to flip the living room in the upper right with the bedroom in the upper left, then I would convert that new living room into a dining room and knock the party wall between the kitchen and new dining room.

Is this a lighted courtyard, or atrium? is it open with windows to the sky, it couid be a nice place! It depends on what country, or climate you are in. It could provide a nice garden court, private garden views within. A garden court would be easy to install and relatively inexpensive. You may want to consider an area for planters, seating, movable plants, and purchasing a small water fountain. Here are some small fountain ideas, put on an interior wall, in your courtyard.
They have them mail order.

1. Square stepped fountain

Timber Indoor/Outdoor Fountain

2. Wall fountain with stone

Kenroy Home Copper Vines Lighted Floor Fountain

3. Hexagon shaped fountain

Outdoor Dining Terrace

4. Modern box shaped, edgeless fountain.

Zen Garden

Thanks!
