Question about wall sconce placement

Amy MunizJanuary 25, 2013
As you can see our master hallway sconce is centered on the rear wall by our builder instead of centered on the arch. I feel it should be centered on the arch because every possible angle outside the wall gives the illusion of being off centered. He said the rule if thumb was to do the rear wall and if we were to hang artwork it would create a bigger problem. I disagree. Can I have input on this?

I would visually center it, but you may not be able to due to the location of studs. I wouldn't tear anything up without making sure it could actually be centered.

Personally I wouldn't beat yourself up over centering it on the arc. It'll be more work for you to take it down and put it back up. Most people will not be standing right in that position for a long period of time to even notice because most people are moving.

If it bothers you, that's when I would move it. But personally there is not a right or wrong answer.
