trim decision input
Michael Rospert
January 26, 2013
I have been reading about the elegance if black doors. I have always been a fan of the modern look of white trim and black doors but for my house was ashtrays unsure. Right now I have original woodwork from 1920. Should I paint or leave original?

It is so gorgeous, especially the doors. I would leave them as they are.

I personally prefer painted trims, but in you case, the door is so beautiful as it is, I would keep the baseboards as they are to match. The window is another story: the wihite blind makes the window trim stand out in an unflattering way. Think about matching the blind to the trim or painting just the trim of the window. The fireplace however doesn't work so well with the door and trim; in fact, the brick and shelf don't go with each other; I say the biggest improvement you could do to make the space harmonious is to paint the brick and stain the shelf to match the trim and door.

I agree with just leaving the trims unpainted. There are lots of character in them.

I agree, I absolutely hate the fireplace. Whoever choose those colors and that brick style obviously didn't care or have any taste. I'm already planning to change that tomorrow lol.

I completely agree to leave the original trim intact.
