Living Room...Decorating Dilemmas
Hi, working on making a few changes to the living room. I plan on keeping the furniture for now, but other items may go or stay. I would prefer to keep the rug because of the cost. I feel the rug and walls are so close in color they are competing instead of complimenting one another. What do I do? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

ahunt09 The couches were given to us and we do plan to replace at some point. The coffee and end tables were also given to us, they were my grandmothers. While I would like to keep them, it's not a must if something else would look better.

Kevin Wild - IBB Designer Try a nice warm gray if you want to stay neutral.
It'll update your space and give it a transitional look.

It also looks great with warm cream/beige colors:

judyg I see your sofa color in the rug, and, of course, your rug color on the wall. Before you do anything big why not get some of that deep blue in the rug in accent pillows and see how that looks. If you like that, an interesting blue + fabric on the windows might pull it all together. Right now there is really nothing wrong, just bland.

anitajoyce Change the wall color to another color. Grey, blue grey or tan would be nice and compliment the rug color.

Christine FREY I would improve lighting wit an original touch of moroccan lamps like these attached

ahunt09 I like the idea of dark blue pillows. We're likely to repaint, but i'll start with the small changes. Thank you for the suggestions! This is a big help!

ahunt09 Found these pillows. They have all the colors from the rug. Too much? Should I try to find more of a solid?

Jayme Hobbs LIKE..add in a few solids too

Kevin Wild - IBB Designer I like the pillows! The next step with is one of the least expensive and has the most eye catching effect would be painting the walls.

ahunt09 Should I paint a taupe/more neutral color? Also, I was thinking of changing the curtains to navy...too much...or keep the neutral curtains I have now?

Jayme Hobbs Taupe-like paint with navy curtains: although the left set looks less navy.

ahunt09 Thanks for your help! I'll have to start looking at curtains.
