Help with a narrow front porch

Kim KleimannJanuary 26, 2013
My front porch is 3.6' x 15' in front on the windows. I really don't know how to make it look nice. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Consider full height shutters for the windows.

I think it looks great! A few tweaks:
Add a potted plant in the middle of the windows...a fern is classic. Paint the rockers black. Add three hanging pendants over each of the windows and double front door entry...looks like you have recessed lights now. Remove the bench and plant stand from your front entry. Keep it simple. Put a tall topiary in your existing black pot on the step.

Thank you for those suggestions, sounds like an easy fix! Do you think it would look nice to extend the brick patio (dropped down) to where the ground cover is?

^ No, I don't think that's necessary. I like the softness of the groundcover.

you really are going to sit on your front porch? if so then widen it.

but as it is now, it is a feature for interesting tall pots with topiary, shutters on the windows and perhaps a tall black iron statuary as well. treat it as a galleria would be inside a house.

Welcome Home designs
The attached picture has a few inspirational ideas that might work for your front entry.
I like the idea of a rich colour for your door - navy blue, charcoal grey, or a high gloss black are some possibilities that would complement the brick.
Adding shutters would also help add interest to these windows.
I like the idea of a chunky pendant light above the door.
I also like the idea of big black flower pots.
Good luck!

Creating a courtyard would add a lovely feature to your home. It should come out even with the structure on the left side and be enclosed by a low brick wall.
