Very undecided on my sofa color - help
kayanee
January 27, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I had a very lengthy discussion on here about this rug. I know I've asked this but now that I have one piece of furniture I wanted to ask one more time. I have two of the peacock pillows and the peacock feather fabric will be simple valances (that fabric is gorgeous in person with metallic gold threads in it) PLUS I now own this chair. I have decided I want a leather sofa, but I am very unsure what color will go with all this now. Does brown work? help.

Use the fabric you have for pillows and return the pillows. Too much peacock.

How about white? Your colors will pop and I have a feeling you love color!

kayanee,

How did the peacock fabric look and feel in person?

Can you really see the metallic gold threads?
Is it thin, light, or medium weight?

That chair is fantastic and it even has the nail heads!

The chair, fabrics, and rug go together so well.

Yes, brown will work!!

How are the cats?

Save the remnants from the valences and sell them as pillow covers for $58.00 each on Etsy.
[What a ripoff.]

Aja, it seems you agree with judyg who posted the same beautiful picture. I'll throw my hat in that direction also!

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design,

It's judyg's good taste!

I just wanted to see how they coordinated.

I still have not learned to do a collage.

White will be crisp clean and dramatic. The others you will tire of quickly. Stay classic simple lines and you can up-date the room easily with new pillows when trends change.

I think if you want a leather sofa, it should be a contemporary style, however I think a navy would look killer and tie everything together. (possibly velvet).
I like the pillows - it's easier to redecorate a room with pillows than furniture.

Aja, the feather fabric is beautiful in person, much, much prettier. You can see the metallic threads but at the same time, they are subtle. It is a medium weight fabric, it has a very nice feel to it. I'm just struggling with the couch choice. I don't know if I like that yellow couch, that's getting very brave for me. Kitties are fine, they are excited to move, lol...

That yellow couch is beautiful, but not for me.

Thankfully, there are scores of colours for leather..

Loving that yellow chesterfield w/ the red chair. That whole collage feels energetic and vibrant.

I like the idea of a navy sofa but that's because I don't like brown and red together.

I love the nailhead trim on the blue velvet one.

I agree with brown (background in your fabric) and seemyart's suggestion of velvet. But I heard you say leather so...as Aja said....many options in leather sofas. The brown is better with the red. It grounds the room (just my opinion) . The yellow and the red compete for attention and neither piece wins.

I know that the tufted back is a classic look but I really don't care for that at all, it looks very busy to me. And knowing my husband, he won't go for anything but a sectional - so I now need a medium brown, not busy, nailhead trim leather sectional.

For instance - does this work? This can be ordered either in all leather or you can get the tops of the cushions upholstered in a rust color fabric. That chair I have is not red, it is called pumpkin - it's a dark burnt orange.

Prefer a more contemporary cream or white sectional

I guess I need to explain that I am trying to avoid something with arms that my cats could destroy with their claws...These looked wood on the top. This is why I am having trouble, I have to take into consideration two kitties with claws that aren't afraid to use them on something they deem "scratchable" ...And yes, they have tons of scratching posts, they use those as well.

No great suggestion but popping in to say I like your style! I have a similar thing going on in my living room, in more muted tones. My couch is tan, though I sometimes consider switching it out with the navy one in my family room. My tan is the equivalent of your brown on the scale of color intensity; I think it would work well for you.

I found this one that I like, I am still worried about the cats with this one, but I think it goes well. Note the color scheme they used in the room.

With the dark brown leather collage Aja provided it looks very rich but more masculine compared to the yellow. The white Kayanee provided is lovely also.

Kayanee,

The reality is, that there is no guarantee our cats won't scratch.

I caught my precious "T'ai" in my husband's den last night to my amazement and horror.

Not on leather, but on fabric.

How can I be upset with T'ai, when I know it is a cat's natural instinct to scratch?

After much thought, I realized that the choice to have a cat, knowing that a cat will claw furniture, is similar to the choice to live in Florida near the Gulf.

We know our property risks flooding so we take every precaution and stand by to recover, and so I must approach the problem of the cat clawing our furniture similarly.

If it happens, it happens.

So I do not choose fabrics that I know will encourage him.
I put caps on the arms and position throws strategically.
I buy extra yardage in case repairs are needed.

Then I set back and forget about it.
It's only furniture.

I am no more going to give up T'ai then I am going to move.

Because of our cat I have stayed away from leather...Our cat will go for fabric too, but I usually catch him before he causes much damage...however, my few pieces of wicker/rattan bear the scars.

I know, that's why I could only afford 2 pillows, lol! Fabric must be a lot like jewelry when it comes to photographing it...You know how jewelry always look better in person? So does fabric!
