How do I make my small room look bigger?
I have a small room, but lots of stuff. In the winter (in picture it is summer) it tends to look very dark. I want to know what I can do to make it look bigger and cleaner.I have recently added another bookshelf on top of the white one in the corner so it is even darker now.
Thanks!

Judith Taylor Designs Closed storage for all the little 'bits' less furniture, more significant pieces. Here is a recent blog post where I commented on this (see bedroom). Keep the furniture to a minimum and consider a storage bed.

aboo77 Elevated bed with storage underneath. Make use of wall space for books (use ladder style bookcase or floating shelves from Ikea). Lighten wall colors with soft colors like white or light blue gray. Freshen up bedding with light colors too. Use just small pops of color to add fun. Hope this helps. Ikea has tons of fun stuff for reasonable prices that are made for small spaces.

Belman Living LLC Add a nice mirror on one of the walls with a light fixture on it. This will definitely make it look bigger. Try to keep your walls as empty as possible do not clutter it with too many frames. Keep your stuff in drawers and cabinets and keep your room more organized. This way it will surely look bigger.

Cassidy Thanks I have a large mirror on the other side of the room but I could get another one for the side you can see in the picture. Thanks for the Murphy bed Idea.

littledesigner Also I do like the room in the picture above the white bed would also make your room seem brighter along with white furniture if you have the budget, that wall color will look nice and make your room not to neutral with neutral furniture so you don't need as many colorful things on the wall or as many decorative pieces causing clutter

Hoped that helps :)

gillianlf Have you tried the bed with the headboard against the wall next to the window running length wise in the room. It's hard to tell from one picture, but it might open the vista to the window and make it feel more spacious.

littledesigner I don't really have a picture but that photo you showed above us really close all I mean is that by adding color to the walls and getting rid of some of the accessories and things on the wall it would make your room feel bigger
