How do I set up this room so that I can watch tv looking at the tv straight on but not block the fireplace wit

KatinaJanuary 27, 2013
I need help arranging my furniture so I can face the tv straight on and not be sitting sideways.

Are you asking where to put the TV, because I don't see one. What is on the wall opposite the French doors? Looks like it might be a dining area. I don't think we have a full view of the space to make a valid suggestion. Can you post pics of the two other walls in the room?

Some rooms are just not meant for watching TV.

Who watches TV? All I do is houzz, But, really, isn't a dedicated viewing area a better way? A nook or area that is solely for the tube? Then viewing is a choice, not the only thing to do.

What an incredible room!!!!! Your only option is to watch T.V. on your IPad. There isn't a suitable wall to even mount a flat screen. I would consider removing the long drapery panels though, they divide the room in to quadrants and maybe lower the ceiling fixture? Gorgeous home!

If you must watch here, you might consider these ideas for placing a TV where a wall won't work!

Have a wall-mounted television above the fireplace. The installers will know exactly how high to put it. They do this all the time!

The other option is to float an Armoire in the middle of the room (has to be placed right) with a TV inside. That is what we did in the Living Room in the home below (the Telly is in an Armoire facing the seating area - not seen in picture).

Another suggestion If I may, the window panels look too insubstantial. If you want, go for French pleated floor to ceiling drapes on rods and rings and pull them to the sides with tiebacks - has a drop-dead gorgeous look....with a price tag to match....!

If not, perhaps you could think about simple Linen Roman Shades or Natural Bamboo Roman shades on the top windows - filters in light and creates interesting patterns - and French pleated white shears on rods, on the bottom windows.

i also agree with maybe a family room area for the tv rather than this more formal room.

Thank you all for your suggestions. This is my in-laws home and I was asking for them. This pic (pretend there are no people in it) shows what they ended up doing. The tv is in a huge wall unit entertainment system on the left which isn't in the pic. My father in law has his chair next to the fireplace and he's facing the tv head on like he wanted.

Oh and the original picture was of the sample home because theirs wasn't built yet. There's is the same except the fireplace is flipped to the opposite wall.
