Exterior Paint Ideas

January 29, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Hi all
I need some help to pick a main colour for our house. Its a 1910's weatherboard home. We painted the roof in Deep Ocean and the trims have been picked out in a rust effect. I don't know if we should go dark or light. Thanks everyone.

Light....with your large overhang in front your home is shadowed so I think dark would be too dark

I have been leaning towards light too. It just picking the colour is doing my head in. Any suggestions. Oh BTW, hubby is a painter so the house needs to look extra good :-)

Can you post the colors of the roof and trim and the manufacturer which will help us give you more informed advice? I recommend that the front door be a contrast color as a focal point. I would eliminate the wine barrel planters and have custom built planters sitting on the ground under the windows almost the full width of each side of the door and painted the same color as the trim. They should be built at least half way up to the windows. Don't skimp with ready made planters. You want to enhance the charming house with architectural elements and planters that are deep enough to sustain plants and moisture. Your husband probably has a carpenter friend who could build them for you. They should be painted the same color as the trim. Plant them with a combination of evergreen and annuals and don't neglect them. If this is an advertisement for his painting business then they will need to be maintained impeccably.

What city are you in? That looks like Australia (even before I saw the post box). It actually looks like regional Queensland, perhaps Toowoomba.

The colour on the roof is a Colourbond colour - Deep Ocean. The rust effect is a Porters paint Specialty Effect used on the window trims, the front awning trim and front fence. The door is a deep blue (colour matched from a local building). We are thinking of adding window awnings and aprons...more thoughts please, keep em coming.
