HGTV Makes it look so easy. We are having serious trouble with a living room design!
We cannot come to a decision on what to do with the media storage around the fireplace. We are thinking about a built our mantel but haven't been able to get farther than that. We truly are in "analysis paralysis". What do we change first, the paint color of the room? Or the drapery? Where can we add extra seating, like accent chairs? So many questions and we are definitely having a hard time given the unique shape and size (small) of the living room.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

TanCalGal I would tackle the loose, unattractive TV wires first and find a place for components other than chair.

If U like the paint, keep it. I cannot see too well from here. The curtains I would tie another way to frame the sofa. See bedroom curtains.

The sofa, I'd center in front of the windows. An area rug might help and throw pillows pulled from rug. 1 chair on right of sofa might work.

Judit You may want something thick and soft under your feet : a rug you can even sit on. An armchar on the right of the sofa. And a new light fixture and curtains. At the moment anyone can peep in :)

Jayme Hobbs To the one side of sofa, with more space I think u could put a chair/and maybe also one under your floating shelves. It would possibly need to be a smaller scale chair. A rug would help warm up the space too.

Brenda Fisher For your components I suggest an open compartment that runs across the tv wall. Set it slightly closer to tv than fireplace and extend it to within 3-4 inches of wall. Wider and higher than mantel but no higher or deeper than is needed to house your components. Think the reverse of a floating shelf. Stained ebony or painted charcoal grey. Visually I don't think this wall can "carry" a mantle, as the room is too small and modern for one.

jamesfc Why have the tv above the fireplace? Why not on a stand to the right on that short wall. I still don't understand the obsession with hanging TVs over a fireplace. Thought of watching that makes my neck sore.
