Horrible vent in dining room
Looking for suggestions on how I should handle this horrible eyesore in my dining room! I would love to cover it with the mirror I have below, but wondering if that is safe. What would you do in this situation? Has anyone has this situation? Thank you in advance for your feedback and tips.

judyg You can't cover your vent. It is part of your heating/cooling system. What makes it so obvious is the dark behind the louvres. If you paint that wall(s) a darker grey or blue or brown, and paint the vent frame and louvres, it will disappear.

orangecamera The cover can be hung either way (facing up or down). I can't tell from the picture, but you may have it hung so that you're looking up into the openings, instead of at the slats themselves. If it's painted the same as your wall color, and you're looking up at the slats...you'll see more paint and less empty dark space.

I have the same one on my wall, and after a while I've just stopped noticing it.

Liz They are facing up. I think it sounds like I need to paint above the chair rail. I've grown sick of the red... Might as well start fresh with something new and do both above and below chair rail the same color. Thanks!

apple_pie_order I think it is installed upside down; orangecamera is right. If it is dusty, wash it front and back before re-installing it. Some vents like these have the disposable filter immediately behind them.

curacaoblue You cannot cover it but you can change the cover. Check out something like these ideas:

Rachel Check out this easy (and cheap) do it yourself version of curacaoblue's idea:
