Need help with our bar area
I need ideas for our bar area. We are having a bar custom made in Walnut. The bar will be 8 ft long with a walnut bulkhead following the lines of the bar. We would like to make the wall behind it a feature wall with stone. My dilemma is which stone to go with, I'm feeling that the dark stone will make the area too dark. The ceiling area will be a tin ceiling. The floor is a natural hard maple and we have a entertainment unit out of walnut as well. My choices for the stone are the following attached photos. The foot rail on the bar will be a brushed stainless steel. The counter will be Dolce Vita laminate. If you have any other ideas for the wall I would appreciate hearing them. Thank you

Twisted Minds Custom Designs Looking through your ideabook, you seem to like the look of the stacked stones, if you'd like, let me offer you another look of a bathroom I transformed using stacked slate for the walls and concrete for the vanity tops and sinks. On my profile page there are addiditional pictures of this, and other projects that may pique your interest. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'd be glad to answer.

bester Very beautiful !! I'm thinking with the dark walnut bar that I should go with the lighter stacked stone, do you think that would be a good choice ?

Twisted Minds Custom Designs Yes, I agree that with the dark bar, and the recessed bar area, you should use a lighter toned stone for the wall, maybe even enchance it with a full length bottle shelf in walnut with a brushed stainless mini-rail to match the bar and foot rail.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design The key to the whole bar area with stone wall will be the lighting! If the area is properly lighted you'll have a beautiful space. Be sure to use more than one kind of lighting. It needs to be layered, with spotlights and pendants, sconces and perhaps some rope lighting, and under cabinet lights, too.

bester Love the idea for the shelf and lights. The area actually has 3 smaller windows that also will give some light. We were going to go with potlights behind the bar area because we are going to install a tin ceiling and some type on the lights on the bulkhead which will also be walnut over the bar. Sounds like we should go with pendants on the bulkhead. Thank you both !

Twisted Minds Custom Designs Another thought combining the shelf and the lights, if you went with glass shelves with a walnut drop down trim and the stainless rail, you could install a string of rope lighting that would illuminate up through the different liquor bottles, could be a dramatic evening effect.

bester That sounds beautiful and yes it would probably be quite dramatic !

Mosaic Architects SF Hello bester:
We had a similar challenge for a bar we designed and chose a warm Corona de Oro backsplash tile by rocPRO. Our solution to lighting was to make the shelves "float" in front of the stone backsplash wall and add LED tape to the back of the shelf.

The bar turned out to be one of the owner's favorite in the entire house.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Remember that the three windows will not help your lighting after dark, and it's likely that that will be when you're using this space.

bester Yes, that is true. Thanks !
