Black honed countertops with white cabinets in a small kitchen
We have a relatively small kitchen with a large island in between(as seen in the pic). We are confused in our choice of countertops; between white princess quartz and honed absolute black. I love both looks and can't seem to decide between the both. White makes it look clean and classy but I fear it might make the room too stark n clinical. I also love the look of honed absolute black..its traditional and pairs beautifully with white cabinets and white backsplash. But I am not sure if it will make the kitchen look smaller than it is. our kitchen faces the south and it gets ample light from all the windows in the room. I would really appreciate your expert advice on this. Thanks a lot in advance!!

chrisregas17 1) Black absorbs light...harder to work on at night. While dramatic, visually breaks at horizontal line...makes space smaller. Great with very tall ceilings, though. If you decide on black...Add under cabinet lights and glass upper doors to get more reflective light surfaces. Maybe, shinier backsplash. Get sample of honed black granite or matte black material and put it on your counters....Look at it at night or in dim light. Can you live with this dark horizontal surface?

2) All white will make space larger...no visual break. Add glass doors and put colored plates or glassware inside, or paint back of cabinet for pops of color. Put colorful vase of fresh flowers, bowl of fruit.

Your counters are main focus of kitchen... imagine being in vast expanse of black. Easier to add color to all white kitchen. Good luck! You'll make the right decision.

Barbra Bright Design HI Chris, I've attached a photo of a white kitchen with a honed black countertop. The contrast looks fantastic. One thing though, honed black granite will show water spots. Will that drive you crazy?
