Ironwood Builders Sorry, I think working with the stone you have is better than "modernizing" it. The paint, finishing and accessories that finish the space will help determine style. The fireplace will blend into that style, chameleon-like. I wouldn't mind seeing a wangle added to the piece, some details added on top of the mantle will help break up monotony...and will give you a place to hang stockings!

claudiann I love this fireplace. I think it looks contemporary. I agree with ironwood I think.. I don't know what a fireplace wangle is but if he meant a mantle I'm all for it.
